Last month, rumors surfaced that Sega was preparing a new game titled OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PSP. Today, Sega officially announced Coast 2 Coast for a March 2006 release on PlayStation 2 and PSP, but the supposed Xbox version was replaced by a PC edition of the game.

OutRun 2006 is actually a compilation of sorts, featuring 12 licensed Ferraris and 30 stages taken from OutRun 2 (which was released on the Xbox in 2004) and the new arcade game OutRun 2 SP. The game will also include a new mission structure, a license mode, and online play for up to six players. The PSP and PlayStation 2 versions will have platform-specific missions and extra content that unlocks when the two systems are hooked up with one another.

Development on the game has been entrusted to UK-based Sumo Digital, the team behind the original OutRun 2. Sumo Digital has previously worked on Virtua Tennis: World Tour for the PSP, and is currently preparing the PSP version of TOCA Race Driver 2: The Ultimate Racing Simulator for Codemasters.
