Gamers who've already made plans for Halloween this year might have to rethink them. Square Enix today announced that it will release Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2 in North America on October 31.

The publisher is releasing the game in both a standard package ($49.99) and a Collector's Edition ($59.99), the latter of which will be available exclusively through GameStop and EB Games. For the extra $10, gamers will get a bonus DVD with developer interviews, featurettes about the series, Japanese and American promotional trailers, and an art gallery.

A playable demo of the game was included in last year's major Square Enix role-playing game, Dragon Quest VIII, while Japanese gamers got the chance to get their hands on the game when it was released in that country in March.
