Boss Tips
Divine Beast Cave - Divine Beast Dran
Divine Beast is the first boss battle in the game, and it will take some skill to defeat him. It’s a good idea to enter this level of the dungeon with your best weapons fully repaired, and with a Sky Buster equipped on one or more of Toan’s weapons. If possible, place the item Dran’s Feather in one of Toan’s Active Item Slots to make him run faster when you hold the square button down.
You’ll need to switch between characters frequently during this battle because Xiao can hit Dran while he’s in the air, but Toan can do more damage to the beast when it lands. Using Xiao, press the Circle button to lock onto the enemy and hit it with her most powerful slingshot. When Xiao hits the airborne Beast he will flash red and land for a few moments. At this point, switch to the character Toan and move in with his sword. It is best to back away after hitting Dran once, because he will strike back if you stay near him too long. Then switch back to Xiao and repeat the process until the Divine Beast is defeated.
Once Dran is defeated, the gate in Norune Village will be opened, allowing Toan to go to the next area; Matataki Village. Before you go there, it is a good idea to finish building Norune village and fulfil all of the villagers’ requests. When your Requests are 100% fulfilled, Dran will appear and bestow Toan with a new attack called the Windmill Slash.
Wise Owl Forest - Masterutan
Goro is the best character to use for this battle. Equip him with the best weapon you have and customize it with attachments and gems to boost attack power for this battle. It safest to hit the Masterutan only once each time you attack, because the he is too fast to hit with combo attacks. Stay close enough to the boss that he doesn’t use his ranged attacks, but not so close that he can hit you with his hands. Right after the Masterutan flails his arm to strike your character, run up and hit him with once. This will usually cause the Masterutan to sit down, which is your chance to stand in front of his feet and hit him again to cause some real damage. Then back off and wait for another opportunity to strike. If you see the message "no effect" appear on screen, it’s probably due to the low power of Goro’s weapon. Stick to this tactic and don’t worry about these messages, because you will eventually damage the boss if you keep hitting him. After the Masterutan is defeated, he will clear the path to the next area, Brownboo Village.
Shipwreck - Ice Queen LaSaia
Bring a Stamina Potion, several Revival Powders and lots of Food to heal with to this battle. You have to hit the queen with a physical attack, such as Toan’s sword, to break her shield. Then switch to the character, Ruby and use her best magic ring attack against the queen. Give Ruby a stamina potion and set her ring’s attribute to Fire to do more damage to the queen. The only time you should lock-on to the queen is when Ruby is about to attack. The rest of the time you’ll be able to move fast if you avoid locking-on. Equip a Dran’s Feather to help you run faster. Alternate between attacking with Toan and Ruby until the queen is defeated. Toan gets the Moon Orb after the Ice Queen is defeated. Take the moon orb to Brownbo Village to advance the game’s story line.
Sun/Moon Temple - Coffin's Chamber
This fight is best handled by alternating between two characters. The first is Ungaga and the second should be the member of your party who does the most damage in a single attack. When the battle begins, select Ungaga and hold down the X button to make him spin his staff. This will draw the coffin toward you and momentarily disperse the black smoke that protects it from harm. When you can see the black smoke that surrounds the coffin form a ring, switch to the character that does the most damage and strike the coffin once. When the coffin will resume its attack, switch back to Ungaga and use the spinning-staff attack again. Repeat these steps to defeat the coffin.
Moon Sea - Minotaur Joe
He may look tough, but Minotaur Joe has a weakness that you can take advantage of. He is easily distracted by the barrels of wine in the arena. This means if you run past some barrels while the Minotaur is chasing you, he will probably stop for a drink, giving you a chance to hit him. Use a Dran’s Feather to help you run faster, and lead the Minotaur past the wine barrels. Each time the Minotaur stops for a drink, run toward him and attack once with your most powerful character. Don’t get close to him at any other time or you’ll get a taste of his ax. When the Minotaur stops to bellow menacingly, switch to a ranged attack and get a few extra hits on him. Once you master this strategy, it’s just a matter of time before the battle is won.
Gallery of Time - The Dark Genie
The Dark Genie is a boss that you fight in three distinct stages.
Battling the Genie’s Hands
First you must damage the hands that come out of the ground to attack your character. Toan is the best choice for this part of the battle. The only way to hurt the hands is to set your weapon to the attribute that matches the color of the eye on the back of the hand. For example: if the eye on the genie’s hand is blue, you must change your weapon’s active attribute to Ice in order to damage the hand. Keep the Genie in view and pay attention to which hand he is attacking you with, and what color eye appears on each hand. Each hand’s eye color will remain consistent until it is destroyed and replaced with another hand. For example: if you see a red eye on the Genie’s right hand, you should set your weapon to the Fire attribute whenever the Genie plunges its right hand into the ground. Red indicates the Fire attribute, Blue indicates Ice, Green indicates Wind, Yellow indicates Thunder, and Purple indicates Holy. For more information on this boss battle, press the # key to return to the previous menu.
After the Hands are destroyed
When you have defeated the hands that come out of the floor, it’s time to switch to the character with the strongest ranged attacks. Which character this is for you will depend on which character you have obtained the best weapons for, and whose weapons you have upgraded the most. When the genie leans down to shoot a beam at your character, get out of the way. After the beam misses, quickly fire once at the Genie’s head. When the Genie baths you in light, the only defense is a Stamina Potion. For a short time after your character has taken a stamina potion they will be invulnerable to the Genie’s bathing light attack, will take less damage from the massive beam attack, and do additional damage to the Genie. This will really help to defeat this stage of the dark genie. If you don’t have a few stamina potions, then you should fill your inventory with Chicken and Revival Powders to heal your character with. If this still doesn’t work, then you should revisit earlier dungeons to build up the strength of your character’s ranged attacks. You never know, you might find some stamina potions along the way.
After the Genie changes shape
The last stage of the final boss battle takes place after the genie has turned into a huge beast and transported you to a magical void. The goal of this stage is to hit the huge crystal whenever the beast opens its mouth. When the mouth is closed, focus on defeating the lesser enemies that the Genie summons to aid him. When you hit the crystal enough times, the genie will die and the game will end.
