 Monsters
Alexander
These floating helmets are very good at blocking your attacks. Try staying just outside the reach of its sword. Then move in for at attack right after it swings at you. Repeat this until the enemy is defeated.
Arthur
These enemies can do a lot of damage with a single attack. Don’t use the lock-on during battle with these enemies, because it will slow you down and make you easier to hit. When the enemy lunges toward you, run around to its side and hit it once or twice and then prepare to dodge its next attack. Repeat this until the Arthur is no more.
Billy
These enemies will not take any damage from weapons that are set to the Thunder attribute. They are very good at blocking, which makes it especially difficult to hit them with ranged weapons. A good strategy is to quickly hit Billy once or twice at close range and then back away to avoid his counter strike.
Blue Dragons
The blue dragon is one of the toughest enemies to be found up to this point in the game. Be aware of their ranged attacks because they can freeze your character in place. Using the item, Mighty Healing, is the only way to recover a frozen character. It takes a lot of damage to defeat these enemies.
Bomb Heads
Bomb heads are weak to Thunder, so set your weapon to that attribute to do more damage to them. It’s safer to defeat these enemies with a ranged attack because their final act is an explosion that could damage you.
Cannibal Plants
Lock onto these flower-shaped enemies and cautiously approach them. Keep a bit of distance until it fires a poisonous cloud, because these are harder to dodge when you’re next to the plant. Sidestep the gas cloud and move in for a combo attack to finish them off. Weapons that are set to the Fire attribute will do additional damage to cannibal plants.
Cave Bats
Weapons that are set to the Fire attribute will do additional damage to cave bats. Use Toan’s charge attack as the bat approaches to attack you. Even Toan’s dagger will defeat a bat with this attack. If you are having trouble judging when the bat is about to strike, watch for its shadow on the ground. Equip an Antidote Amulet to avoid getting poisoned by the bat’s bite.
Corcea and the Captain
These skeleton pirates are fast, so you must react quickly to hit them before they hit you. Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do increased damage to the Corcea. The captain is craftier than the other skeleton pirates, and he will jump away almost every time you swing a weapon at him. Try waiting for him to come to you and then swing your sword before he hits you. Alternately, you steadily advance toward him while swinging to back him into a corner and then let him have it!
Crescent Baron
The Crescent Baron can do a lot of damage to you, so it’s vital that you avoid his ranged attack. Here’s a strategy for defeating this enemy at close range. Avoid locking-on to the baron, because you’ll be able to move faster. Then wait until the baron fires it’s ranged attack. Quickly run around the attack, get right next to the baron and hit him once or twice. Then back away to a safe distance before the baron can spin and strike you. Now wait for another opportunity to rush the baron when he fires at you.
Cursed Dancer
Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do additional damage to the Cursed Dancer. Be careful to avoid their attacks, because the dancer’s curse will not allow you to change weapons. Use either a Sacred Water or a Mighty Healing to remove the effects of a curse.
Cursed Rose
Weapons that are set to the Fire attribute will do increased damage to the Cursed Rose. Avoid the gaseous cloud these enemies can shoot, because it can slow your characters down with the Goo status effect. If your character gets "gooed", you’ll need to use soap to restore them to normal walking speed. The safest time to attack the cursed rose is right after you side-step their goo attack.
Dashers
Wait for the Dasher to charge at Toan, and then attack it with a quick combo to cut this enemy down to size.
Dragons
Weapons that are set to the Ice attribute will do additional damage to dragons. Don’t stand directly in front of these deadly enemies. Instead, lock on to them and step around to his side where it’s safer to attack. Hit him once or twice and then back off to avoid the dragon’s lunge and approach his side again.
Dune
Dune enemies are weak to Wind, so set your weapon to that attribute to do more damage to them.
Earth Digger
The easiest way to defeat these enemies is with Xiao’s slingshot. It is possible for other characters to damage the earth diggers, but it’s not easy. First, cautiously approach the enemy until he pokes his head out of the ground and then stand still. If the digger fires his ranged attack at you, side step it and move in for one attack. Then back off and repeat until the digger is no more. You can defend against the digger’s leaping attack by charging Toan or Goro’s attack and releasing it before the digger reaches you. Timing this correctly can be challenging, and many players will find it easier to stick to Xiao’s slingshot against earth diggers.
Fli Fli
Weapons that are set to the Fire attribute will do additional damage to the enemies known as Fli Fli. Lock onto these mushroom-shaped enemies and get ready to side step when they fire a cloud of gas at your character. After you avoid their attacks, move in for a combo attack to finish them off.
Ghosts
Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do additional damage to ghosts. Ghosts are more dangerous when you keep your distance, allowing them to shoot at you. Close in on them quickly and attack them with a combo.
Golem
A good strategy against the Golem is to move in for a strike and then back away to avoid the shockwave from its ground smash attacks.
Gunny
Weapons that are set to the Thunder attribute will do increased damage to the Gunny. Try not to hit them while they are blocking because it will damage your weapon a lot.
Gyon
These giant fish like to charge at you with their spears. When they do, simply step to one side and attack them as they pass by.
Haley Holey
These enemies look like a cross between a tomato and a helicopter. Weapons that are set to the Fire attribute will do additional damage to this enemy. A good strategy is to approach the haley holey until it starts flying, then back away from it’s whirling blades until it lands. The Haley Holy cannot stay airborne for long, and the safest time to attack them is right after they land
Hornet
If you’re having trouble avoiding hornet attacks, you may want to use Xiao’s ranged slingshot against them. If the hornet poisons your character, use an Antidote Drink to cure them.
King Prickly
These enemies like to hide in the trees above the forest floor. If your map shows a red dot near your location, but you can’t see a monster, it’s probably a King Prickly. The best way to spot them is to look for their shadow on the ground, and then cautiously approach it until the beast drops from above. Then quickly hit the king before it swings around in circles, because that’s a tough attack to avoid.
Lich
It’s easier to hit this pint-sized magician while it’s on the ground. Weapons that are set to the Ice attribute will do additional damage to the Curse Dancer. They will try to punch you each time you attack them at close range, so back away each time you strike this enemy.
Living Armor
Be sure to back away from these enemies before they strike you with their lance-like arm. There is no weakness to the Living Armor, but you can defeat it if you get enough attacks in. Hitting these enemies takes a lot of weapon hit points off of swords and other close range weapons, so you may want to stick to ranged attacks like Xiao’s slingshot and Ruby’s ring.
Mask of Prajna
These floating masks can poison you as well as attack you with their swords. Always back away when you see this enemy reach for it’s sword, because its attack can be devastating. Use the Antidote Drink to cure characters who are poisoned by the mask’s gaseous attack.
Master Jacket
Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do additional damage to Master Jacket. They are very good at blocking attacks, which makes them especially hard to hit with ranged attacks. Learn to time your sword strokes to hit the Master Jacket at he lets his guard down.
Mimic & King Mimics
Try not to hit mimics while they are blocking because it will damage your weapon a lot. Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do additional damage to both types of mimics. The larger version of the mimic can be quite intimidating. Try to stand your ground until these enemies hop into range of Toan’s sword. Then swing once and back away to avoid the king mimic’s clapping hands. Repeat this until the dreaded mimic king is no more.
Moon Bug
The Moon Bug’s cannon packs a punch, so get ready to step to the side whenever they fire. A good tactic is to charge straight at these enemies. When you get too close they will back away rather than fire at you. Use this to your advantage by backing them into a corner where you can easily finish them off.
Moon Digger
These enemies are safer to hit from a distance with either Ruby or Xiao’s weapons. Thrown items such as a Bomb or a Poison Apple are also good weapons against the Moon Digger. Either of Toan’s charged attacks work well against the Moon Digger, but get ready to run away if the first blow doesn’t finish the enemy off.
Mr. Blare
These enemies are weak to Ice, so set your weapon to that attribute to do more damage to them.
Opars
When these huge enemies are defeated, they can damage your character by falling on them. For this reason, it’s safest to hit these enemies once and then step to the side to avoid its attacks. The Opars also release clouds that will temporarily slow down your character’s movement. Use the item, Soap, to immediately remove this effect.
Phantoms
Get out of the way when these giant bugs fly above your head. This means the enemy is going to dive onto your character and try to poison them.
Pirate’s Chariots
These cannons pack quite a punch, so get ready to step to the side whenever they fire. A good tactic is to charge straight at these enemies. When you get too close they will back away rather than fire at you. Use this to your advantage by backing them into a corner where you can easily finish them off.
Rockanoffs
Weapons that are set to the Holy attribute will do additional damage to Rockanoffs. Swing your sword early enough to hit them before they roll over you. If your first attack doesn’t finish them off, release your lock-on and run away. Wait to attack again until the Rockanoff stops chasing you.
Sam
These enemies look like a man made out of ice. They are weak to fire, so set your weapon to that attribute if possible. It may be safer to attack them from a distance, because sometimes they explode when you defeat them.
Statues
Statues can do a lot of damage, so it’s in your best interest to dodge their attacks. If you’re using Toan’s sword, it’s safest to back away after you hit the statue once. Then resume attacking after the statue misses you.
Volcane
Weapons that are set to the Ice attribute will do additional damage to the Volcane. The best close-range tactic against this enemy is to hit it once with your weapon and then back away before it strikes you. Keep doing this until the Volcane is defeated.
Werewolf
This enemy is good at blocking and has a very powerful attack. A good tactic is to back away from the werewolf until it leaps at you with one arm extended. At this point you can side-step to avoid the attack and hit the werewolf on its unprotected side.
Werewolves (Gallery of Time)
The werewolves in the Gallery of Time will not take damage from a weapon that is set to an attribute. This means you must turn off the active attribute for your weapon before it will hurt a werewolf. To do this, go into the attribute menu for your weapon and highlight the name of the attribute that is active. Then press the X button to make the word "active" disappear, indicating that your weapon has no active attribute. You must do this before your weapon will harm the werewolf.
