Overview of Weapon Growth
Upgrading Weapons
Improving your weapons is an important part of this game, and its never too early to get started. Weapons gather Absorption points each time they are used to defeat a monster. These are shown by the blue meter that’s on your screen in dungeons and in the Items menu. When a weapon’s Absorption meter is filled, you can upgrade that weapon one level, improving some of its attributes. If you want to improve your weapons faster, add attachments before you upgrade them. Any attachments that are on a weapon when it’s upgraded will be absorbed permanently into that weapon, leaving room to add new attachments.
Protecting Weapons from Breaking
Weapons will break when their hit points fall to zero. Avoid this by using Repair Powder on your weapons before their hit points are gone. Even though Toan’s default weapon, the Dagger, doesn’t go away when it breaks, any attachments on the dagger are destroyed when this happens. Breaking other weapons that you find for Toan will result in the loss of the weapon and any attachments it had on it. If you don’t have any Repair Powder, you can get a free one by talking to the mayor of Norune Village. Then you can use it up and immediately talk to the Mayor again to get another Repair Powder. Be sure to make the most of these freebies, because the Mayor stops giving hand outs when you finish rebuilding the Odd Gaffer’s Cart.
Tips for Building up Weapons
Building up is a way to turn one weapon into another, more powerful weapon. To see what attributes must be improved on a weapon before it can be built up, go to the weapons menu. Pick the weapon you want to build up, and then choose the build up option. Unless your weapon is ready to upgrade, you will see slots with question marks in them. When a weapon’s attributes are high enough, these question marks will be replaced by the name of the weapon that you can replace it with. Select one of the slots and press the X button to view your weapons current attributes. Any attribute that’s shown in red must be raised before the weapon can be built up. Press the L2 or R2 button to scroll through the different types of attributes. This will help you know what attachment to place on your weapons to get them closer to being built up.
Using Synth Spheres Strategically
Any weapon that has been evolved five times can be turned into a synth sphere by selecting "status break" in the weapon menu. Status break turns the weapon into an attachment that carries 60% of the old weapon’s attributes to whatever new weapon it is attached to. For example, Ungaga’s Terra Sword has a base attack strength of 120. Once it’s been upgraded to a +5, it can be turned into a synth sphere that would add about 80 attack strength to any weapon it is equipped on. This may sound like a raw deal for Ungaga, but it’s pretty handy to be able to add 80 attack strength to any character when the need arises. Adding a synth sphere to a weapon permanently can really help build that weapon up. Sometimes it helps to hold onto a synth sphere and use it for levels where you are forced to use characters who don’t have powerful weapons. If you’re planning to pass a synth sphere to other characters, remember that they are absorbed permanently if they’re attached to a weapon when it is upgraded.
Best Weapons
Toan
The best weapon for Toan is called the Chronicle Sword and there are many different ways to build up to it.
From Baselard, Shamshir, or the Sax
The Baselard can be built up into the Shamshir or the Sax. Build either of these swords into the Dusak. When you build the Dusak, choose the lower of the two swords in the build up menu; this will result in the Seven Branch Sword. Build the Seven Branch Sword into the Atlamillia Sword. Then, build the Altamillia sword into the legendary Chronicle Sword.
From Gradius
When following these instructions, you should always choose the lower of the two swords in the build up menu. Build the Gradius into the Chopper. Build the Chopper into the Dusak. Build up the Dusak into the Seven Branch Sword. Build the Seven Branch Sword into the Atlamillia Sword. Build the Altamillia sword into the legendary Chronicle Sword. Remember; you must choose the lower option in the build up menus for this to work.
From Kitchen Knife
When following these instructions, you should always choose the lower of the two swords in the build up menu. First build the Kitchen Knife into a Sax. Then build the Sax into the Dusak. When you build up the Dusak, choose the lower of the two swords in the Build Up menu to get the Seven Branch Sword. Build the Seven Branch Sword into the Atlamillia Sword. Build the Altamillia sword into the legendary Chronicle Sword. Remember; you must choose the lower option in the build up menus for this to work.
From Macho Sword
The first time you build up the Macho Sword, choose the upper choice on the Build Up menu to get the Aga’s Sword. Then build up the Aga’s Sword twice to get the Chronicle Sword. This sounds easier than it is, because the Macho Sword takes a long time to get enough absorption points for each upgrade.
From Wise Owl Sword
The Wise Owl Sword builds up to the Chronicle Sword in three steps. First it will build into a Lamb Sword, then into an Atlamillia Sword, and finally into the Chronicle Sword. There are no other weapons to build the Wise Owl Sword into, so you don’t have to worry about choosing the wrong slot on the Build Up menu.
Xiao
Xioa’s best weapon is the Angel Shooter, and it can be built from any slingshot in the game except for Steve.
Goro
Goro’s best weapon is called Inferno. You can get one by building up a Battle Ax into a Satan Axe. Then build up the Satan Ax into the Inferno. Be prepared to spend a long time upgrading both the Battle Ax and the Satan Ax, because it takes very high stat values to build each of these weapons up. If this explanation is unclear to you, here is a general explanation that may help you. Building up is a way to turn one weapon into another, more powerful weapon. When you build the Goddess Ring into the Althena’s Armlet, you’ll only have one more step to go to get the secret armlet.
Ungaga
Ungaga’s best weapon is the Babel Spear, and it can be built from any of Ungaga’s weapons. If you are building up the weapon called the Mirage, be sure to choose the option that leads to the Terra Sword and not the Hercules Wrath.
Osmond
Osmond’s best weapon is the Star Breaker and it can be built from any gun in the game.
