A Breath Of Fresh RPG Air

Final Fantasy XII was much needed for me, as I never bothered with FFXI and FFX-2 was fun but not very rich. I'm not a fan of the battle system, as I prefer the classic type, but overall I really enjoyed this game and all it had to offer.

First and foremost, the world is beautiful and vast. Exploring it was a treat, as it fully made use of the PS2's technology. The characters are wonderful, detailed, and easy to fall in love with (in typical Final Fantasy style). The voice acting is fantastic as well. FFX started a new era of it, but FFXII perfected it.

The battle system I have a problem with, but many people like it. It is still turn based, but it's more of a melee type system, and you can set your characters to automatically use commands. This is called the gambit system, and it's pretty handy. There are no more random battles, you have to run into your enemies to battle them. It's new, it's innovative, and it is fun, but as I said before, I would prefer FFX's battle system better. Hopefully with FFXIII they figure out something better.

I do recommend this game for any Final Fantasy and RPG fan, though none of you would need my opinion as this game's reputation proceeds it. Happy RPGing!

Diamond in the Rock

This is by far the most visually appealing game of the PS2/GC/Xbox generation. And don't think that takes away from the gameplay, either. Gambits, for instance, allow you to program the behavior of your allies. As long as you have them on, you can move freely and your party will attack as you want them to see fit. Those of you who have a distaste for turn-based combat as I do, you need not shy away from the Final Fantasy name anymore. Amoungst the vast wildlife, some creatues require that you sign a contract with those they've wronged before you set out to slay them.

As a politically active Japanese game, FF12 is prominately anti-war. People who have a problem with this, Shakespearian dialect, or memories of Star Wars will miss out. Your Han Solo is a classy sky pirate and your Chewbaka is a bunny wearing a metal thong.

The best yet!

The best Final Fantasy I've played thus far, great gameplay, great story, a huge uphill to get started though (it makes me look forward to Final Fantasy XIII).

Plus the world of Ivalice in this game being shared with several other Square-Enix titles makes this even more interesting if you've played any of the other games set in the world of Ivalice (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc).
