A Guilty Pleasure

by hannibul_91 Aug 12, 2009, 10:00 AM PDT

I'm sorry, this game is just so campy and stupid that I can't help but enjoy it. Not what I was expecting from a sequel, but I enjoyed it none the less and played to 100%. There is a huge amount of replay value here, as there are multiple endings and events that cancel each other out so you must replay to see them unfold. The battle system is also pretty fun, you can get a lot of different play styles from your party with the new dress spheres system.

The plot is interesting and for those who are dying to know what happened at the end of FFX this is the sole reason to get the game. It was nice to see how Spira and it's citizens changed. Though the game has a series undertone, especially one the main plot gets rolling, the Gullwings and much of Spira are presented in a very campy happy-go-lucky manner. Sometimes it is just so stupid you can't help but smile. But when the game is serious, man is it serious. I admit I cry every time I watch the '1000 Words' concert. Overall the game is fun, and for those who need to know what happened after the original the game delivers that plot very well.

Fun to play.

Unlike the other Final Fantasys, this one is actually fun to grind it out and level up your party members. I was expecting more from the story of Final Fantasy X, though. The game used "Dress Spheres" to change jobs in the middle of battle, which made it unique and fun to play.

Great sequel

You probably wont like this game at the begining if you didn't played the original FFX before. The storyline of the game has a great background of FFX, so there will be a lot of stuff that you wont clearly understand if you don't know the previous game.
The style of the game is a bit different, while the original is more mystic-like, this one focuses a little bit more in futuristic stuff.
The most interesting part of this game is to return to the all the locations of the original FFX and see whats going on this time. Also, there are 3 "different" endings in the game, the incomplete one, the complete one, and the super-complete one. So you'll have to do a great job in the game to get it.
If you liked Final Fantasy X as much as I did, you MUST play this game and figure out what the hell happened at the end of the original.

FFX-2 Review

by SCM13 Feb 23, 2009, 6:45 PM PST

I love this game because it was a great sequel to FFX. I actually played this game before I played FFX so picking up X-2's battle system was easier than transitioning from X to X-2 which are completely different from one another.

The battle system is semi-real time and a lot more fun than its predecessor. You can't actally move the characters but they do have action bars that allow a character to make a move based on how much time it takes to execute that move, and then how much time it takes to recover from using that move as opposed to FFX where it's completely turn based. Weapons/armor/accessories still suck, but once again, they really aren't that necessary.

I gave FFX a 4 out of 5 and this game gets a 4 as well. It was just as good as FFX (better I think), but blitz ball SUCKS. Blitz ball really made FFX for me but they completely changed it in FFX-2 and had it been kept the same as FFX, I could have easily given this game a 5. In X-2 it's completely spectator/coach instead of actually getting to play. You're more like a GM (general manager for non-sports fans). That and the lack of playable characters (you can only use the three on the cover).

All in all, still a really fun game. Characters are comical, you meet almost everyone from FFX (key - ALMOST). X-2 also boasts a more intriguing storyline, better battle system (sphere grid integration), great graphics (movie scenes can be bought in the game to be viewed whenever), even better music (I want the soundtrack), Yuna now has guns instead of a staff and doesn't look like a nun, what more can you ask for?
