Almost a great game

MLB:09 is the most realistic baseball game I have ever played. It gets a lot of things right. However, there is a major flaw: in-game goals.
To improve your abilities you must earn training points. Get a homerun, RBI, etc. and you are rewarded points to "buy" improved abilities (i.e. contact, power, clutch batting, arm strength, etc.) However, rather than just reward points for doing well, MLB:09 gives you in-game goals (i.e. "Drive in the Run"). Failing these goals takes away points you've earned elsewhere. It is just plain bad design to take away points for failing to do something you're trying to do anyway. It's also bad design to expect a batter to drive in a run from second twice every game and to penalize him every time he fails to do it. What it boils down to is you must have high attributes to earn points and avoid negative points, but you can't get the high attributes because the game keeps taking your points away from you. This is VERY frustrating.
Also, there are too many attributes. Contact vs. left pitcher, contact vs. right pitcher, power vs. left, power vs. right, clutch batting, plate vision, plate discipline, arm strength, arm accuracy, fielding ability, reaction time, drag bunting, normal bunting, the list just goes on and on. The list needs to be shortened. Why have both drag bunting and normal bunting? Why have power ratings for both left and right pitchers when you increase power (through working out) symmetrically? All of these attributes make advancing your ability very difficult.
There are times when you aren't playing the game, the game is playing you. Every ten games or so I go two games without getting a hit. It happens regardless of the pitcher, the team, home/away or my temperment and with such a regular degree that it can't be coincidental.
There are some glitches in the game. For example, about half of your at-bats will lose the pitch tracking all together.
Other than that it's a great game. Get rid of the penalties for failing to accomplish the in-game goals and this would be a five-star game.
