If there are two things both of Todd McFarlane's characters gain in the world of Soul Calibur II, it is a great mix of attack speed and height variety. This isn't too say Spawn is as unpredictable in tossing moves out as his green brother, as he seems to telegraph a tad more in comparison to Necrid.
Height variety, another similarity they share, is a great advantage Spawn has over other characters in the line up. His moves that mix up high and low strings of attacks are easily accessible, which as you should know help keep opponents on their toes.
The only disadvantage Spawn may have is in his range. He has to move in a bit more than other characters (what looks like medium to borderline short range), which is great for a slight pressure offense, but not so great for keeping people from poking him from a distance. It should also be noted that while Spawn does have a fireball style move for long range, projectiles in Soul Calibur II are easily side-stepped. So don't expect to toss fireballs all day long from a safe distance.
Spawn's offense instantly proves itself to be very quick with height variety within the first handful of easily executed moves. Shadow Cleaver comes out fairly fast, mixing up two highs with a low. Night Stalker Flurry (6, A, B, B) is simply a variation of Shadow Cleaver ending with a mid level strike. Don't just count on these two moves, however, as everything this guy has is fast and varied. Look at Demonic Salvage (4, A, B) or Lancer Kick (6, B, K) as some more examples. Beginners should have no problems mixing it up with this guy.
Necro Blast comes out fairly fast and offers some excellent damage (Guard Breaks and is unblockable if charged), but you have to approach using it the same way you would use Link's Arrow. No one is going to let you sit back and throw projectiles all day long. Learn that people will side step this thing, so don't expect to hang back shooting all day long.
Yet another set of moves that attack all three height ranges. If you are looking for something that starts out low, give this move a try. Also check out some of Spawn's basic B moves (Lancer Kick - 6, B, K - Dread Lancer - 6, B, B - Malignant Cyclone - 4, B, A) for some more great High/Mid Mid/Low attack strings.
