If you are looking to break away from some of the more traditional strategies offered by the rest of the cast, then you should immediately start memorizing the move list for Voldo. In the correct hands, this character appears to be one of the more versatile and unpredictable characters in the game, with a range that easily hits from a medium distance and better than normal physical speed for running around the arena.
Voldo's bread and butter, however, lies in his variety. He has tools in his offensive bag that hit in a plethora of heights and ranges, possibly excluding an intensive long range regiment. His stances, which he flows into without too much effort, offer even more options for mixing up his attacks. These elements can make Voldo a very difficult character for your opponent to read if you play correctly.
His game seems to falters slightly when going up against characters that are skilled in distance containment. Voldo is not an easy creature to cage down, but the nature of his offense relies on constant movement and change. If this element is shutdown, Voldo becomes a little less dangerous.
Voldo has a lot of nice, moderately quick, basic chains to use for poking or applying some subtle pressure. To start experimenting, try playing around with Dark Shredder, Scissor Claw (A, A), Side Claw Kick (A, K), Stampede Shredder (B, B), Blade Nail (6, B, B) and Guillotine Scissors (3, B, B).
This isn't so much a discussion on how good or bad Super Freak is (some might say it is too good), as it is to push the issue of using Voldo's stances. When I say Voldo is unpredictable, we don't mean in that Xianghua offensive barrage sort of way. Voldo is difficult to read more in a patient sort of way. Some of the basic moves mentioned above can go into different stances, which on top of them have tons of moves that hit in a variety of ways (he has at least 50 moves in his stance list alone, that is a lot). Super Freak also happens to be a really good choice for side stepping moves, so try it.
