Yunsung

Depending on where you are coming from, you will have one of two bipolar opinions of this character. The first is that Yunsung is a walking disaster, whose best strategies are constantly trumped by someone who can do them better. The second is that he is a mean medium range machine waiting to be discovered and people just enjoy being negative.

Both camps have very valid philosophies. In a traditional medium range game, which is the range Yunsung seems to excel at, he can not contain many of the other characters. In fact, this can become a major problem against characters like Mitsurugi or Kilik who have a field day forcing opponents into the medium range. Part of this problem stems from having a very limited variety of height attacks, making most of his offense predictable. His other strong weapon, the evade game, is also not quite as slippery as speed demons like Talim or Xianghua. He has an arsenal waiting in the wings with the 8-way run, but again his lack of height variety and slightly quicker than normal attack speeds make this a risky endeavor.

All that this should really mean to Yunsung players is that you are not going to be running circles all day long and you are definitely not going to force anyone into playing your range game. Yunsung players should rather try adopting a more passive offense where you bait out opponents, evade, and then punish whiffed moves or mistakes.

Blade Song (A, A, B)

Blade Song and Talon Destroyer (A, A, K, K) are two nice basic attack strings for Yunsung. Their combination of speed and range help Yunsung apply direct pressure from the medium range. Be careful when tossing these moves out blindly, as none of them switch out of the high/mid range. While a tad slower, try Lashing Tiger (6, A, A) for at least one option in attacking the low range.

Viper's Illusion (8WR-3 (or 9), A, B)

As mentioned before, Yunsung's medium evasion game is probably one of his best strategies. Viper's Illusion along with Willow Dance (8WR-2 (or 8), A, B) is two good basic evasive attack strings beginning Yunsung players should experiment with. In a way, they act sort of like Blade Song and Talon Destroyer as far as speed and ease of execution is concerned and make for a great punishing follow up against an opponent's whiffed move.

Viper Sweep (2, K)

It is very easy to accidentally get caught up in an exclusively high/mid game with Yunsung and completely ignore going into anything low. For this reason, we have to feature Viper Sweep, Warrior Dance (1, K, A, B), Warrior Step (1, K, K, B), Warrior Step into Crane (1, K, K, 6, K) and Warrior Divide (1, K, K, 4, A+B). These are the majority of his easily accessible "out of the box" low moves. Find a way early in your Yunsung lifetime to mix these moves into your offense. Yunsung's offense desperately needs something that moves out of the high/mid game, and the bulk of it lies in these kicks.
