Setting up your PlayStation®2 (70000 series)

  1. Check that your package contains all of the following:
    • PlayStation®2 system
      PlayStation®2
    • AC Adaptor
      AC Adaptor
    • AC power cord
      AC Power Cord
    • DUALSHOCK®2 analog controller
      Controller
    • AV cable (integrated audio/video)
      AV Cable
    • Online start-up disc
    • Instruction manual

  2. Position the system
    You can place the system horizontally or vertically. When setting the system vertically, use the Horizontal Stand (sold separately) for stability.

  3. Familiarize yourself with the system

  4. Connect a TV

    Before you begin:

    • Do not plug the system�s AC power cord into an electrical outlet until you have made all other connections.
    • Make sure the TV is turned off.

    To connect the PlayStation�2 to your TV:

    Use the following picture quality scale as a reference for what kind of connections to use to produce the best picture quality when using your PlayStation®2.

  5. Connect an audio device (optional)
    The PlayStation®2 comes equipped with stereo sound. Connecting the system to a television with either SCART or normal composite/component inputs will produce stereo sound output. However, the system also supports Dolby Digital and DTS (Digital Theatre Systems) audio. To make use of these capabilities, connect the system to audio equipment with a built-in DTS or Dolby Digital decorder.

    To connect digital audio equipment to your PlayStation®2:

    1. Use a commercially available optical digital cable to enjoy surround sound.
    2. Refer to the instructions supplied with the digital audio device you are connecting.
    3. Set the PlayStation®2 system’s Digital Out (Optical) setting to On:
      1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 to display the main menu.
      2. Select System Configuration and press icn_btnx_color.
      3. Select Digital Out (Optional) and press icn_btnx_color.
      4. Select On and press icn_btnx_color.

  6. Connect the controller
    To connect the DUALSHOCK®2 analog controller, insert the plug into the controller port on the front of the system.

  7. Connect the power cords
    To connect the AC Adaptor and AC power cord:
    1. Connect the AC power cord to the AC Adaptor.

    2. Plug the connector of the AC Adaptor into the DC IN 8.5V connector on the back of the system

    3. Plug the AC power cord into a working electrical outlet.

    4. The on/standby indicator light on the front of the system will light up red to indicate that the system is in standby mode.
