What a Huge Disappointment

by TheMadSpin Apr 3, 2009, 12:58 AM PDT

Where do I start?

Yes, those are some mighty HD sets and characters, but who cares? Jeopardy is a game that could probably have been pulled off more convincingly on an ipod touch than it has been on the PS3.

Why is it that the tech involved for the PS2 disk version is somehow more impressive than the tech involved in the PS3 version.

For a game touting HD, there is shockingly little production value. No host, no voice acting (Even my DS Games have voice acting).

Oh, and pretensions of intellect aside, did we really have to dumb down a game that is known for being unique for its cerebral and erudite quality? I don't watch or play Jeopardy so that I can hearken back to middle school social studies pop quizzes. Multiple Choice answers may streamline play, but voice support could have done the same while still keeping Jeopardy at least moderately challenging.

Oh, and how many of you were insulted that the game has in game trophies complete with the trophy icon, but that they couldn't deliver the moderate effort needed to patch actual PSN trophies into the game?

It may have only been 10 bucks, but now I wish I'd picked up Burn Zombie Burn.

If they patch in trophy support, feel free to raise my score by a half star. If they retroactively add them based on current in game accomplishments, give the game 3 stars.

Poor

by Jim777 Feb 28, 2009, 5:47 AM PST

Jeopardy was a huge let down for me, after seeing how well trivia games can be made (Buzz!) its a shame that Jeopardy was made so poorly. With no host, sound, or real content it is really lacking. Not to mention the absence of trophy support.

This... is... Jeopardy!

by TechTrekker Feb 12, 2009, 6:06 PM PST

I've been watching Jeopardy! since I was a child (I'm showing my age here, but who cares?) And after watching it for so long, this game is an excellent way for someone to be a contestant without winning any money. Since this game is made directly by Sony, expect the quality of the game to be high. For all of those J! fans out there, this game is a must buy. (I don't have a PS3, but I can still write a review after looking at the 11 screenshots)

It's not as bad as they say ...

by res0795d Jan 21, 2009, 7:42 PM PST

I've been watching Jeopardy for several decades (I know, I just showed my age) and this game captures the "essence" of Jeopardy! While it would have been nice to hear Alex Trebek or Johnny Gilbert in-game, the graphics are superb (I love it in HD) and the gameplay is easy to pick-up, understand, and play along.
I find the game ntertaining, and engaging. It brings back memories of gathering as a family and playing along at home - that means more to me than anything else. While in my youth I gathered with my family to watch the show and I now can play along with my 6 & 3 year old!

Thank you Sony Entertainment for bringing it to the PSN - I appreciate it!

Now when can we download that snazzy new theme song???

The Worst Game Ever!!!

by jeffsara2007 Dec 25, 2008, 9:57 AM PST

This is by far the worst interactive game show game I have played in a long time. My wife and I still play the old PS2 version and saw this so we bought it. Big mistake!!!! A waste of money. If you love Jeopardy, then I would recommend buying the PS2 version. In this version there is no host and the answers to the questions are multiple choice. This game is a joke and should have never been allowed to be released.

At least its only $14.99

A gameshow without a host is like a bar without drinks. That's what we have with Jeopardy on PSN. There is no host, so you have to read the questions yourself. There is NO presentation in this title. The game does not record previous questions answered, so you may see questions more than once as soon as your next play through. When answering a question (or questioning and answer :P) you get 4 multiple choice options. This makes it infinitely easier then the real gameshow.

The online component is probably where this is played best. But, some bugs hinder that experience as well. You can create a game for people to join, only to find that no one is coming in. Reset the game, do it again, and all of a sudden people join right away. The same goes for joining rooms. Clicking to join any game will sometimes tell you there are no rooms available. Reset, do it again, and BAM you're in. Disconnections are common, so you'll often find the game continueing with just two contestants. There's no penalty for disconnecting and not much here to play for. It lacks rewards and penalties for anything really.

Creating your character would be an exciting feature at least. But the limited options make many people look the same. If you like Jeopardy and want the game, there really isn't a choice for you. But, if you're looking for a trivia game for you and your friends to play (online or off) steer clear of this one. Even for $14.99, you won't get much out of it.
