AWSOME

by xRagingLionx Sep 11, 2009, 11:03 AM PDT

I love this game!

YOUR A FREAKING DRAGON RIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is obvious that it could have been a lot better, but its the only game devoted entirely to dragons and dragon riders . . . and since I'm crazy about dragons . . . . .
Hopefully, we will see another game like LAIR, but better.

Fun Enough

by L81Corvette Aug 17, 2009, 9:10 AM PDT

Lair was another game I had to try due to a mix of my personal love of fantasy and my desire to support the underdog. While once again I absolutely believe the critics are unnecessarily harsh, the game does suffer many flaws in it's execution.
First of all, the sixaxis control scheme works JUST FINE as it was originally intended, I have yet to have a dragon not go where I intended it to. In fact, right after purchasing Lair, I downloaded the control pack just to be safe and have yet to use it. I enabled the crosshair once, but found it to be more of a hindrance than a help.
Locking onto enemies is still problematic at best (and contrary to some views, the crosshair does NOT help) as when even if you have a solid lock on, say, a rhino thundering toward your troops, if a stray enemy dragon flies by near you, your lock will suddenly jump away after it against your will. This makes for some frustrating moments, especially if you're hunting for that Gold or Platinum trophy!
Overall, the gameplay is good enough when combined with the stellar production to get a lot of enjoyment out of Lair. However, the frustrating moments pop up more frequently than they should which, for me, knocks this down to an OK 3 out of 5.

Good game

by Jwarrior2 Apr 12, 2009, 3:01 PM PDT

the graphics, story, voice acting are all very top notch. After playing through most of this game i can say that it is grossly underrated. the controls do take some getting used to but once u do it adds to the whole experience (actually i tried using the analog controls and they were way harder than the sixaxis controls) all in all definately a must play game for ps3 owners.

Lair is a must own for the PS3!!

by hanvy82 Mar 5, 2009, 4:34 PM PST

I bought this game not too long ago and found it to be a wonderful experience. The air combat, ground combat, and mission variety are awesome. The only thing that keeps this game from being a 5/5 is that it is sometimes hard to see which of the hundreds of dragons in the air are on your team. Even with the "dragon" sight it was hard to find some objectives. Other than that I am proud to own this great game.

Loved it and Hope for a Sequel!

by DragonRiderGirl Feb 6, 2009, 5:49 AM PST

I hadn't even heard of this game until a friend gave it to me for Christmas. I love dragons and I was hesitant because I'd just played a horrible dragon game not long ago. (Avoid Drakan: Ancient Gates at ALL Cost).

I fell in love with this games because they controls were easy to adapt to. I've heard people complain but I've had no problems. To me it always seemed natural if you're riding a horse, you move the reins to one side or nudge it in the side, this is just the virtual version of that. (For those who don't know, you tilt the sixaxis controller to control the dragon in the air.) Those who've had problems can fix it with the new Dragon and Control Pack downloadable from the Playstation Store.

This game has wonderful graphics, voice acting, score and story line. It pushes the bar for PS3 games to follow.

Hated It.

by Nyven_ Jan 24, 2009, 11:10 AM PST

I should have known that being on the back of a dragon would not make this any better than your standard flight game. The story line sounded good, but if you don't like flight simulators they the midevil draw of the dragons won't do anyting for you.

Pretty Cool

by JD7078 Jan 17, 2009, 2:05 PM PST

I agree with the other reviews regarding the controls. The only reason it got so many bad reviews (like gameinformer) is because the retards playing the game didn't have a clue what they were doing. I mean comon the game begins with a turtorial and even offers them between each mission so you can get them down at your own pace! The game is very unique and interesting. The graphics are just...WOW...that is all I can say about those. Take some time and learn how it is played. You'll like it quite a bit if you know what your doing. The only downside is the dragon does not fly very fast. But the rest of the game makes up for it.

A victim of bandwagon hate.

by MadxHatTeR Jan 15, 2009, 9:26 PM PST

Lair was mostly overlooked due to a number of scathing reviews that bashed the games mandatory sixaxis controls. Well Contrary to popular belief the controls are quite responsive and incredibly satisfying. . . If you are willing to spend the time to learn them.

If you are interested in playing Lair, LEARN TO USE THE SIXAXIS CONTROLS! Yes analog controls are available now, but you are not doing yourself any favors by using them. The analog controls feel unnatural at best. Especially after getting the hang of the sixaxis. Lair was built for the sixaxis and it does a damn good job using them! If you have an unwavering hatred for the sixaxis and refuse to give a new control scheme a chance forget you where ever interested in Lair and move on.

For those of you still interested it will take you about 15 minutes to get use to the sixaxis controls, which is how long you will spend in the tutorials, but it will take hours of game play experience to master them. It’s all very intuitive but it will take you a long time to master the subtle movements you will need to make with the controller. Once you have a grasp on the controls you won't want to play it any other way.

Lair can get pretty hectic at times and if you weren't too busy fending off Rhinos, taking down dragons, and devouring soldiers, your jaw would drop at the sheer number of things going on. the constant flow from one objective to another, the juggling of multiple objectives as well as the screen being filled with hundreds of enemy's leads to a great sense of urgency on the battlefield. There are some graphical hiccups that prevent the game from being GOTY material, but they are never game breaking.

The story is not groundbreaking in any way, but it is executed very well, the voice acting, graphics, dialog are all great and the story is interesting enough to push you forward in the game. The musical score is fantastic and what you would expect from a game involving dragons. It certainly contributes to the epic tone of Lair.

Lair is no pushover and you are going to have to work hard to get better than that bronze medal at the end of the mission let alone beat the mission. Lair, even with its flaws, offers a uniquely satisfying experience and is one of the few games that has a truly “next gen" feel. If you are interested and have yet to be persuaded by the mass media hate, you should definitely give Lair a try, but remember to keep an open mind and have realistic expectations.

Good game.

I am still playing this game and like it. But it is hard to fly the dragon. But I have just started the game so I know it is gonna take time. The graphics are very very nice.
