GREAT

by sunnytuesday Oct 27, 2009, 6:04 PM PDT

Pros:
-amazing first person platforming action
-great graphics and style
-controls feel great after some practice
-has time trials and speed runs to keep you busy when your done

Cons:
-extremely short single player (i beat it in about 5 hours on hard mode)
-cutscenes could be much better

Final Verdict:
Even though this game is extremely short, the single player experience is very fun and if your like me youll want to complete it multiple times just to relive the experience.

PARKOUR SIMULATOR

by herve21597 Oct 10, 2009, 4:25 PM PDT

So parkour is a new genre created by this fun game that we know as Mirrors edge.U can explore a big city but the levels are linear. So u can jump,180,slide,crouch,shimmy,wallrun,do balance beams, swing to poles, and more parkour stuff and it feels very realistic like nothing u ever played before. The game also has a combat system which is also mixed with some parkour moves. But the combat basically works by sliding and kicking sum1 in the nuts, jumping and kicking his head, then grabbing his gun and firing away. The combat system isnt the main jewel of mirrors edge, but its a nice addition. The game also has a time trial mode, but i dont play it becus i suck.Time trial lets you play different areas and post ur records online. But the main problem with Mirrors edge that keeps it from being amazing is that its so short and there arent so many things to encourage replay value.Mirrors edge just doesnt seem to have that '"secret ingredient" which gives games a good replay value.I only played it 3 times through.Overall Mirrors edge is innovative, but just a rent.It may be a good sign of what may come in the future though. :} PS:AWESUM VISUALS

good story, unique take on first-person action, atypical female

by plaztiksyke Sep 10, 2009, 4:47 PM PDT

MIrror's Edge makes just enough small innovations that it adds up to a unique experienced that should not be missed. The world and characters have a great look (overuse of the now cliche bloom lighting shader notwithstanding) and design, the controls are fairly tight, and the acrobatics and melee and accessible and entertaining. The way my husband and I summarize it is like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, with a first-person futuristic female twist. We loved the PoP trilogy, and we love MIrror's Edge for similar reasons.

What keeps this game from being 5 stars?
1. Graphics are pretty good, but the PS3 can do better. Aliasing artifacts are particularly distracting, when many less-than-1080p titles use FSAA to mostly eliminate these to great effect.

2. The trophies make you play through the game at least twice to get them all (and, in turn, the Platinum trophy). I *hate* games that do this.

3. The sound assets sound like a lowest-common-denominator, much lower than the 360 is capable of. It's not distracting, but once you've heard how good a game can sound with 24-bit DTS, games without it sound kind of flat.

4. The Time Trials DLC pack, which is really great looking and fun, is too expensive. They partially make up for it with a LOT of trophies added as part of the DLC, but even a dollar cheaper would have been more acceptable. (EA took this same strategy with the Prince of Persia and BioShock DLC.)

5. Sometimes, the bags are hidden pretty ridiculously. I don't like games where I basically have to consult a trophy guide/walkthru, rather than figuring it out myself in a decent amount of time. (Ghostbusters is an example of a game that does this kind of thing much better: finding artifacts with the PKE meter.)

My husband and I are looking forward to a sequel, especially if it solves these (mostly technical) deficiencies and keeps the characters and their stories real/believable.

Summary: Highly recommended.

OK

this game is good because its like no other game, but the negative side of it is that it can be completed in a very quick time and gets very boring.

Amazing but lacking (please read n respond)

by Dopedup657 Jul 15, 2009, 10:07 PM PDT

this is possibly one of the most realistic games to date. its one of the first non-souly first person shooters that ive seen, but this defines first person. when u look down u can see ur feet n whe u run ur hands fly in front of you. and if u run at top speed for extended periods ur muscles start to wear n u slow down. the combat could use some work but after u get used to it its fun and entertaining. this jumps are a little too far fetched because if u miss by just an inch then u go flying towards the ground and it looks amazing but u dont get second tries in real life so.... this game is still worth getting. the take down moves are awesome but get repetive since theres like 2 per enemy type. there needs to be more variety since theres only story mode time trials and speed runs(timed story mode) the way u interact with the enviroment is incredible, get it and u will see wat im talking about. this should be a model of realism and gameplay to all other games there is also reaction time during the game(slow motion) This gme is a great game for u if u like action and fun it could use competive multiplayer. but get it if u want a good game, with good graphics and a good story if u dont mind animated cut scenes. i hope they make a Mirrors Edge 2

Amazing But Not Perfect

by AK-47man Jul 10, 2009, 10:28 AM PDT

The game itself lacks with the total length. It can be finsihed in little under 8 hours However the game itself is a masterpice to look at. It is unlike any other game you will ever play it gives a relistic view point that you are running and jumpping form roof tops.

Falls A Little Short Of Perfection

by BLYLAS Jun 30, 2009, 1:19 PM PDT

I was really excited about playing this game, especially after I had played the demo. I thought it was very realistic and also loved the new "perspective" that he had to the first person view. When I bought the game I have to say I was a little disappointed after playing it for a while. I love the feel of running away, but felt the "fighting" was a little lack luster. Why give me the option, if I can barely use it? Overall, I loved the game and hope they make another one. The controls sometimes were a little off when it came to some tight jumps, but the feel of jumping from a ledge, rolling, then hopping over a fence, to leap down and slide under some pipes is amazing. Would recommend this for anyone, unless they get indigo easily.

Realistic

by xAlexburnsred May 27, 2009, 6:07 PM PDT

this game is awesome and i'm suprised it wasn't more expensive. it makes you feel like you're in the game, and running away from the cops really gets your heart racing. i love all the different moves you can string together. i'd recommend it to anyone who even likes first person shooters.
