Great game, got it for my kids, and even I play with them

by nanofreak Dec 26 2008 07:03 PM

I got this game for my kids, my daughter loves to sing, is in chorus, and I was trying to chose between this and Idol as a gift. I am very impressed with the game, and even I often play it with them. We have had an amazing amount of fun since we got it.

The one complaint I here about the songs over and over. As far as the speed to download songs, it is like anything on the PS3, if you are over WiFi it will take FOREVER. Once you pop in an Ethernet cable it takes just 2 minutes or so per song, if even that. As far as the cost, if you consider you pay $.99 for an MP3, mostly due to royalties $11.49 for a video that integrates into a video game isn't that bad. I got my kids a $20 PSN Network Card at Target, which is a prepaid card you can add to a PSN account. They so far have added 12 songs to the machine, and it has provided us with endless fun.

Not all of the songs that came with it are worth singing for us personally, but consider two things. First, they have to have enough variety on the disc to appeal to everyone. Second it is a party game, and if your pool of friends is diverse at all, you will utilize more songs just by having people over and having fun.

Excellent game, we have been very happy with it. I would without a doubt recommend this to anyone looking for a Karaoke style game.

Best Karaeoke Yet

Haters beware! We have much love for this game, it far exceeds our expectations for a game of this type. Sing till you lose your voice and then sing some more.
$1.49 is well worth it, and downloads are lightning fast.
we give this one 4.5 stars

I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

by Still_Feel_Gone Dec 04 2008 03:45 AM

$1.49 for a song that takes 45 minutes to download? Seriously?

And no... It's not a slow connection at my end. It's the Singstar servers. They are HORRIBLY slow. And $1.49? Give me a break. I'd be more than willing to shell out 99 cents for a song I want, but to add on 50 cents and then making me wait almost an hour to download it is INSANE.

Beware inadequate good tracks

by goryone Nov 27 2008 03:39 AM

The singstar for playstation 3 shows promise because it promises songs on the disc and via downloads, the ability to also use the old ps2 disc was also something promised.

The game however disapoints, the discs just have a few tracks that are worth singing to the other tracks are like music cds of old with just one or two tracks that are good and the others just to complete the cd.

The online store is disappointing the music so far are mostly what is included on the disc, I think the franchise is just trying to sell the new disc and not providing songs in the store.

The ps2 disc while playable on their own on the ps3 are not playable with the same action as the ps3 disc and the promised ability to do this that was said to happen before the end of the year is still not incorporated into the game.

I suggest if you are into serious karaoke check out other karaoke games on the ps3 like the American idol who who at least deliver on their promise with ability to download new tracks that you really want and are not just into making you buy entire disc with just a few good songs
