good, not great

by crimped357 Aug 9, 2009, 9:19 PM PDT

this is a good game for the price. the graphics are out standing, too bad the tracks can't be as good as they look. the AI cheats horribly, the learning curve is way too high. you can pick between 3 settings stupid(novice), hard as hell(skilled), and ****ing impossible(elite). the trophies are just as impossible to get (voted by most web sites as THE hardest ). the online races are not to bad but you may never get a win unless you race with friends and keep out the griefers- you know, your level 5 and he's 50! there needs to be a way to keep the jerks out but the race public i.e. no one over 10 but no less than 5. would this be too much to ask for?!

So, PSN games CAN be mistaken for standalone titles...

by DriftBanana Jul 9, 2009, 10:40 PM PDT

It's incredible that WipEout HD is a PSN exclusive title! One typically associates a downloadable game with something that's not polished and doesn't have a lot of replay value to it.

This is hardly the case with WipEout HD. This game is an absolute steal for its level of quality in both the graphics and gameplay department.

Like any game in the series, it's incredibly difficult to pick up and play. This is not Mario Kart, and it never has been. There's a learning curve to getting good at WipEout, and it's steep. However, veterans should have no problem getting right into the swing of this game. They'll probably recognize the tracks and ships as well.

Words can't describe how good this game looks. You really have to see 60 frames at 1080p for yourself to understand it...

It's an incredibly well put together revitalization of the series. There's nothing groundbreaking about it, but that doesn't mean it's not incredibly fun and equally fast.

The Definitive WipEout of this generation!

by AZsapphire87 Mar 3, 2009, 1:06 AM PST

The first and only WipEout title I ever played before was on the Nintendo 64. Almost 10 years later, I was ecstatic to hear that a fully high-definition entry into the WipEout series was released for sale. Knowing it was only available through the PlayStation Network, I ran out and bought myself a PS3.

I was not disappointed. After purchasing a PS3 and the budget-priced game, I was rewarded with countless hours of anti-gravity fun. I feel that every cent of the $558.73 from my wallet was justified. Studio Liverpool and Sony Computer Entertainment have a game on their hands that stands tall in the crowd of titles available for the system.

It is extremely easy to see that a lot of hard work and dedication was put forth into crafting this game. With the push of every button and the sight of every screen, I can tell that the developers really cared about making the best possible experience they could. With 1080p visuals at 60 fps, a 5.1 channel digital soundtrack and a custom playlist option, simple and great online and offline multiplayer, and tight, natural controls, WipEout HD is a true winner and deserves a download.

I enjoy being able to hop in for a few quick races or sitting down and competing in a session of tournaments. The only thing I could possibly ask for is the addition of more tracks. Sixteen (8 forward and 8 reverse) will surely be enough to hold your attention for quite some time, but I would gladly open my wallet for some new environments to frequent.

If you feel like you're missing something when playing other racing games or driving simulators, give this game a try. You'll be speeding around and annihilating your opponents in no time. And though it's not required, WipEout HD is a great way to show off any HDTV and the power of the PS3's cell processing.

Buy it. You'll be glad you did!

Safety Belt and Ejection System required!

by Neomobius Nov 27, 2008, 6:31 PM PST

This game is simply beautiful and awesome. Although it is very challenging when you get half-way in the campaign mode, it simply requires you to select the best vehicle for the track given your abilites, and rewards you for remaining loyal to racing teams. More tracks and a better online mode would have been appreciated, but for the price this game is simply epic! A must buy if you have access to purchasing PlayStation Store downloads.

For fans of the WipEout series, this is a definite must-buy.

by Dinkelheimer Nov 24, 2008, 10:50 AM PST

This game is fantastic. As a fan of the previous iterations, this is right on par with the rest.

Even though the tracks are from WipEout Pure and WipEout Pulse, they are completely overhauled and redone in HD glory. The soundtrack will give your home theater a hell of a workout, and if it's not your type of music, you can always use custom soundtracks.

One of the best game modes is Zone. The track turns into a graphic equalizer and you automatically increase in speed every so often. It's one of the coolest modes I've seen in a game.

For the price, this game isn't worth passing up.
