Update System Software
The PLAYSTATION®3 system software is updated frequently to provide your PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system with new features and security patches. Always use the latest system software version to make sure your system is up-to-date.
System Software Update Methods

Update using the Internet
Update by automatically downloading update data directly from the Internet.
- Make sure you're connected to the Internet. (See Setting Up Internet Connection.)
- Select
(Settings) from the home menu.
- Select
(System Update).
- Select 'Update via Internet'.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
Update using a Memory Stick™ or other storage media
Update using update data saved on a Memory Stick™ or other storage media.
- Make sure the update is saved on the storage media.
- Select
(Settings) from the home menu.
- Select
(System Update).
- Select ‘Update via Storage Media’.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
Hints
- Update data can also be contained in some game discs.
- An appropriate USB adaptor (not included with the PLAYSTATION®3 system)
is required to use storage media with some models.
System Software Version
To find out about the latest system software, see System Software Updates.
To find out what system software version is on your PLAYSTATION®3 system, follow
these steps:
- Select
(Settings) from the home menu.
- Select
(System
Settings).
- Select ‘System Information’.
- The current version is displayed in the [System Software] field.
NOTES:
- During an update, do not turn off the system or remove media. If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange.
- During an update, the power button on the system front is inactive.
- Depending on the content, you may not be able to play without first updating the system software.
- After you have updated the system software, you cannot go back to an earlier version.
