PLAYSTATION®Network

1) What is PLAYSTATION®Network?
The PLAYSTATION®Network (PSN) allows every PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system user to experience the built-in online capabilities of the system and enjoy the next-generation of online connectivity. When connecting the PS3 to a broadband Internet connection, access to the PLAYSTATION®Network is immediately available with free services including network gaming, access to the PLAYSTATION®Store, web browsing, friend chat, and more.

With PLAYSTATION®Network you can:

  • Create unique Online IDs to stay connected with your PLAYSTATION®Network friends
  • Download games, demos, game videos, and Blu-ray HD movie trailers from the PLAYSTATION®Store
  • Hit up your favorite websites on the built-in Internet browser
  • Engage in multiplayer online gaming sessions
  • Interact with friends online through text, voice or video messaging

2) How do I register for a PLAYSTATION®Network account?
Select under  (PLAYSTATION®Network) in the home menu, and then follow the on-screen instructions to create an account.  Once you create a PLAYSTATION®Network account, you can do voice / video chat under (Friends) or use various online services from PLAYSTATION®Network.  

3) Do I need a subscription to play online?
No, currently there is no fee required to play online multiplayer games on the PLAYSTATION®Network.  However, you have to register for PLAYSTATION®Network account.

4) What types of content are available on the PLAYSTATION Store?

  • PLAYSTATION®3Game demos – Check out the game before you buy. Download a playable preview of upcoming and recently released PLAYSTATION®3 games.
  • Game trailers / videos – Download the latest game trailers and videos.
  • Fully downloadable PLAYSTATION® 3 games (with demos) –
    The PLAYSTATION®Store offers a rich and unique selection of downloadable games. From never before seen titles, designed specifically for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, to well known and loved puzzle games.
  • Blu-ray Disc movie trailers – Satisfy your HD video fix by downloading some of the latest Blu-ray Disc movie trailers.
  • PS one titles for PSP – Relive old classics. Download and play PS one games on your PS3 or PSP® System.

5) How do I purchase products from the PLAYSTATION Store?
You can purchase products online at  (PLAYSTATION®Store) .  To use PLAYSTATION®Store, you must first create a PLAYSTATION®Network account.

  1. Select PLAYSTATION®Store under (PLAYSTATION®Network) in the home menu. If you are not signed in to the PLAYSTATION®Network, the sign in screen is displayed.
  2. Select the item that you want to buy from (PLAYSTATION®Store). Detailed information on the item is displayed.
  3. Select [Add toCart].  The selected product is added to the shopping cart.
  4. Proceed to Checkout
  5. Make payment from the wallet.

After a purchase is completed, a confirmation message is sent to the sign-in ID (email address) of the PLAYSTATION®Network master account that is associated with the account purchasing the product.

6) How do I add funds to my Wallet?

Use the wallet to purchase products that are for sale in the (PLAYSTATION®Store).  You must add funds to the wallet before making purchases.  Add funds to the wallet using a credit card or PLAYSTATION®CARD. 

7) How do I check PLAYSTATION®Store usage?
Check the history of products and services you have purchased as well as information on past usage.

  1. Select your icon under (Friends) in the home menu, and then press the triangle button.
  2. Select [Account Management]
  3. Select [Transaction Management]
  4. Items displayed under [Transaction Management]
    • Manage Wallet
    • View Transaction History
    • View Download List
    • View Services
    • View Subscriptions

8) What features are available under the Friends Category?
Send or receive messages or do voice / video chat with other PS3™ users over PLAYSTATION®Network.  You will need to create (sign up for) a PLAYSTATION®Network account to use these features.  The following icons are displayed under (Friends).  The icons displayed vary depending on conditions of use.

  • Sign Up for PLAYSTATION®Network
  • Sign In
  • Block List
  • Add a Friend
  • Players Met
  • Chat Room
  • Message Box
  • (Friend’s name)
  • (Player’s name)

9) How do I use the PLAYSTATION® Internet browser?
Go to “Settings” on the Xross Media Bar (XMB), and go to “Network Settings”.  With your Network Settings configured and enabled, go to the (Network).  Select (Internet Browser) and press the X button.  For detailed instructions on the Internet Browser, please reference the Online User Guide on your PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system.

10) How do I associate a PLAYSTATION®Network account created on a PC?
When registering an account using a PC, if the newly created account is associated with a user on the PS3™ system, the account holder will not need to enter the sign-in ID to access the account.  Log in as the user who will use the account, and select (Sign Up for PLAYSTATION®Network) under (PLAYSTATION®Network), and then select [No, I will use an existing account.] from the screen.  Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the operation.
