  • What are the new features and specs of the updated PSP®?

The new PSP® has a more streamlined form factor and is about 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original version. In addition, the new PSP® offers a video-out feature, enabling users to enjoy games and movies on a progressive scan TV with high-quality resolution. As part of this refresh, alternate colors will be available in North America for the first time, starting with Silver in September and White in October.

  • How do I know if I own a PSP-2000 system?

The PSP-2000 system has several distinguishing aesthetic characteristics. The speakers are located toward the top of the front faceplate. The Wi-Fi switch is on the top of the system. The Memory Stick Duo slot is on the top left side of the system. The video out jack is located on the bottom of the system, in a direct line down from the Home button. If you purchased the PSP as part of the Daxter Entertainment Pack or Star Wars Battlefront Entertainment Pack, then you own a PSP-2000 system.

  • What does the PSP-2000’s extra RAM mean to me?

It ultimately depends on how you use your PSP.  The extra RAM will be used in several capacities.  First, it provides space for extra features to be added via firmware updates.  Second, if you’re a gamer and play games on the PSP, you’ll notice faster load times for many games.

  • Why did SCE make these changes to the PSP?

We are always listening to the consumer.  In our research analysis, we noted that the PSP has an extremely high satisfaction rate, but that consumers wanted a few enhancements to use the PSP as they would like in their daily lives.  These included a more portable form factor and the video out connection.

  • What colors are available for the PSP-2000?

The PSP-2000 is now available in three colors - Ice Silver, Piano Black, Ceramic White.  The Ice Silver system ships with the Daxter Entertainment Pack, the Piano Black system ships with the PSP (Core Pack) system, and the Ceramic White ships with the Star Wars Battlefront Entertainment Pack (inclusive of a special Darth Vader silkscreen on the back of the PSP).

  • What’s the battery life of the new PSP-2000?

Similar to the original PSP, the new version has a battery life tested at 3-6 hours for games and 3-5 hours for movies. The new version draws less battery power, so this rating was achieved using a thinner, more efficient battery.  If you use the PSP-1000’s battery in the PSP-2000 system, the battery life increases to 8-11 hours for games and 5-8 hours for movies.  (A Battery Kit will be available this holiday season that includes a PSP-1000 battery and battery covers for PSP-2000 users who desire longer battery life).

  • Will the Ice Silver or Ceramic White PSP-2000 be available as a standalone unit?

Not initially. The only way for consumers to get a white or silver PSP is through the respective PSP Entertainment Packs.

  • What are the key titles slated for PSP this holiday season?

There’s a lot of anticipation for titles from some of our biggest first-party franchises, including God of War®: Chains of Olympus, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike, and Syphon Filter®: Logan’s Shadow. Key titles from our third-party partners include Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, Madden NFL 08, SpiderMan 3, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, and the Simpsons.
