Pretty decent

by lofiweapwn Jul 6, 2009, 11:42 AM PDT

I loved the PS1's Ace Combat 2, so when I saw Ace Combat X at GameStop, I had to buy it.

Upsides: Great game overall. Dogfights are amazing, there is some strategy involved, there are a bunch of different ways to customize a few of the fighters, and it's great overall.

Downsides: Kind of a short game, although there is more than one way to go about the campaign mode, and there's Ad-Hoc only. Online would be so cool.

It's a buy if you like Ace Combat games, but I might wait and see if Ace Combat 2 becomes available as a download if you're considering buying a fighter plane game.

(Ace Combat 2 for the PS1 would get a 5 out of 5)

No where near as good as the PS2 Ace Combats

by Rebelious_Sapien Feb 11, 2009, 8:17 AM PST

I'm a huge Ace Combat fan, I own every single installation, and when I heard that a PSP game will be released I was beyond pleased to hear it, and when it finally came there was nothing but disappointment, unfortunately this game was a waste of money, however I did enjoy the animated story and the great designing of the fighter planes and the graphics, for me that was the highlight of the game. But the game style was dull, sometimes it was a struggle to keep my eyes open. sorry about the rating but looking back on the older versions it was definitely the right call.

A great air combat game that never gets dull!

This game is in one word great! The missions are challangeing and the graphics stand up to even the more recently released PSP games on the market. The story is told through animatic cutsceens and the Voice overs are from the point of view of a reporter. Now even though it has many real life aircraft, and some cool fictional ones the locations are all made up in a true to form Japanese air combat tail.

This game has everything you could ever wan't in a air combat sim, dogfights, ground attack missions, ship escort, and even giant airships, and laser defence turrets. All with great sound, killer visuals, and even better gameplay.

There are also unlockable weapons, jets, and upgrades you can make to your aircraft to better suit your flying style. The AI in the early missions is indeed a bit dumb, but when you get into the longer missions this game picks up in dificulty fast. There are even multiple missions paths and your choices can change how each mission plays out, as well as there are two, or three endings to the story.
