5 Star Shooter Shoots For More Than A Sequel

by dualshock22-F3 Oct 2, 2009, 4:23 PM PDT

People think this is a sequel, but it's not really, it's portable version, but this 5-Star thumbs up game is like a sequel, plays like one too but better. The game is great, it's a basic shooter, shoot objects and collect power ups, but it's more, it has tons of features a normal shooter wont have. First lets start with the sound, the sound is amazing, the explosions are loud, the blasts power up sounds and BGM match the game's special theme. The graphics are actually THAT-GREAT! The shooting looks sleek and new as if it was real combat, but the explosions aren't that big though, but the ship design and boss design are great. Now we go to the controls or button arrangement, the button pressing isn't hardcore in the first two levels, but then it gets hardcore, at the Level Nemain, but the controls are smooth and sleek, moving in time with your slightest movement. Now we go to the features, the features are great, multi-player online scores, survival, and more. The features aren't that great though...you have to go and buy the expansion pack to get the great features. Thats my review!

A Great game...

by Brandon2571 Feb 17, 2009, 8:57 AM PST

This is a great game, don't get me wrong. It is addicting and fun to play. I think multiplayer and trophy support would top the whole game off, its just the little features from the PS3 version that this game is missing gives this game 4 stars. Trophy support would be an awesome touch to the PSP.

Super Stardust Portable

by Dadd_E_O Feb 16, 2009, 4:05 PM PST

Coming off of an addiction to Super Stardust HD, I looked at other reviews of this game before I plunked down the cash to bring it to my PSP. After playing this game to completion, I can come away and say that this game is a watered down version of HD.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, mind you. The game is the same, mostly; I recognized many enemy and asteroid formations from the PS3 game. The planets are the same, play the same. The music is orchestral by default, but the Solo expansion (thankfully) makes this a smaller-scale Super Stardust HD that fits in your pocket.

Like it's bigger brother on PS3, this game proved to be rather enjoyable. While I have seen reviewers cite the awkwardness of the control scheme, I only have minor gripes with it. I can't think of a time in the game where a death could be blamed on the controls. Still, getting blasted to bits simply because of having to stop for a nanosecond to change weapons is a likely possibility. I blazed through HD... err, Portable well until the final boss, which happens to be quite different from the PS3's game. I will agree with other reviewers that this sucker is HARD, also noting how much resemblence it bears to the original Stardust's finale. While Super Stardust HD had big globes to roam over, playing Stardust Portable is like flying in a box. After enough movement in one direction, you'll find yourself back at what you were flying away from, and it doesn't take much. It's unfortunate, but probably works to the visual benefit of the player in the long run.

As long as I'm on things that are different, Impact mode is a nice little touch. I have a thing for speed so this long-lasting boost mode has seen quite a few plays. I only wish that it could have made or will make the cut for HD in time. That or HD getting its own, exclusive mode.

Bottom-line, Portable is better than others would have had me believe, though that could just be my bias for this revitalized series. I do lament that this game lacks multiplayer and trophy support, and both versions will hook me with online multiplayer. The decreased real estate per planet is a bit of a downer, too. Still, from the look of the high scores of my fellow gamers, Super Stardust Portable gets enough right to be a solid on-the-go version of a killer PS3 game.

Some games get you hooked with a demo, some only need a trailer

by Lancer873 Feb 8, 2009, 7:54 AM PST

This game was one of the games that I was considering buying on the PS3... I ended up not buying it though. When I saw the trailer for the Portable version, I was hooked, and now I'm going to buy this as soon as I can.

The Bad, Then the Good.

by SkumdogJuggalo Feb 2, 2009, 7:30 PM PST

This game is one of those Asteroid knock-offs.The Levels are boring to look at The explosions aren't big enough. Very few are large enough to enjoy. Last but not least, it is on a UMD. Now that sucks, We need a download-able version. I hate UMD's they shouldn't have even put them in the PSP3000 series it would have added room for stronger CPU's and GPU's. Sony needs to think these things through before they just go releasing crap! Don't get me wrong I love my PSP 3001. I just think that the disk is dead. Its all about the digital download-able data, now. Other than that the game is AWESOME!
