Ready to start using your PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system? Here�s some basic information about how to use the different navigation and controls.


Home Menu / XMB™ (Xross Media Bar)

The PSP® on-screen home menu is the main screen of the XMB™ (Xross Media Bar) and the starting place for many PSP® functions. The home menu consists of icons which are spread horizontally across the screen, with corresponding option icons spread vertically above and below the main icons. PSP® Buttons

The PSP® buttons can do different things when the PSP® is being used for different functions. For more information about the functions of these buttons, see Using Buttons.

On-Screen Keyboard

You can use the on-screen keyboard for many PSP� functions, including text entry, such as when entering a nickname or entering network setting information. The on-screen keyboard functions also vary when you change the input mode. Input modes allow you to determine which characters are assigned to each key on the keyboard.
