Control of the planet is caught in the vise-like grip of the Shinra Corporation. Their powerful presence permeates most areas of life through the military, space exploration, transportation, utilities and most other money-making ventures. Their Mako Reactors in particular, which suck the life from the planet by harnessing all of the available energy, are a rallying point for rebel groups like AVALANCHE.
President Shinra
The head of the corporation, his love of power is exceeded only by his love of money. He's given his son, Rufus, the vice presidency of Shinra, but nepotism is no guarantee for loyalty: President Shinra would be well advised to watch his back.
Rufus Shinra
The Turks' ruthless boss, Vice President Rufus is a solid fighter who carries a shotgun. He is the son of President Shinra.
Turks
Although technically a part of the Shinra Public Maintenance and Order Division, the Turks answer only to Rufus, who uses them for his own sinister ends.
- Tseng
Tseng is the official leader of the Turks and has the respect of the group. He's also trusted by the Shinra Corporation in general and is often assigned the most important missions, such as protecting President Shinra. He has a certain interest in Aeris.
- Elena
Competent, capable and an efficient fighter, she's usually in the company of Rude
and Reno.
- Rude
A sniper who hits the bottle, Rude's specialty is assassinations. Very loyal to the other members of the Turks and Shinra.
- Reno
An incurable romantic with a certain style, Reno falls easily in and out of love, but can be counted on to get more serious jobs done.
