 Tips & Tactics
Grenade Tossers
When you are confronted by grenade tossing guards, run at them. They’ll end up throwing the grenade over your head. If you get in close range, they’ll usually reach for their gun. This should give you enough time to get in a well placed shot to their head, leaving you undamaged.
Flak Jackets
If you are low on armor, find a guard with a flak jacket, and take him out with a head shot. If done correctly, the enemy will leave behind a flak jacket, which will restore 25 percent of your armor.
Stealth
When you are trying to get through a level undetected try these tips: Eliminate the searchlights before they shine on you. Move slowly and sneak up on the guards. Take advantage of your abilities such as crawling and peeking around corners. Also, don’t use loud weapons, stick to your 9mm and sniper rifle. If you’re having problems with groups of enemies, try throwing a gas grenade in the middle of them. When you are out in the open and under major fire try rolling with your "x" button. This way you can dodge most of the enemy’s fire.
Taking advantage of the environment
Take advantage of your surroundings. If you see a chandelier, shoot it. A lot of times this will kill a guard or groups of guards before you see them. You also might see some green bottles in the labs, if you shoot them they will emit a green gas and clear out the room for you. When you come across a group of barrels, light them up. They have a very large damage ratio and can eliminate large groups of enemies. Be sure to keep your distance from the barrels in a firefight, the enemy will use them too.
Crouch walking
In many levels of Syphon Filter 2, being spotted results in instant failure of the mission (in other words: Game Over). If you hold down the X button while moving, your character will crouch and quietly sneak around. There are many advantages to crouch-walking:
• While crouch-walking does reduce your character's chances of being spotted at a distance,
but you can't escape the notice of enemies who are close by and facing you.
• Crouch-walking makes it possible to stay hidden behind objects that are shorter than your character.
• Rolling on the ground is noisier that crouch-walking, and may give your position away!
Climbing up
There are times when you you need to climb to get to a landing above, or to hang from an overhead beam to cross an otherwise impassible area.
To climb on top of an overhead surface or object:
• Stand below an edge of an overhead surface or object, and then press the Triangle button to jump up and grab it.
• Press Up on the D-pad/Left Analog Stick to climb onto the overhead surface or object.
• While hanging from the edge of an overhead surface or object, press L2 or R2 (or Left or Right on the D-pad) to move left or right.
Press Down on the D-pad/Left Analog Stick to drop to the ground below, or to a lower ledge
Using the Hand Taser
The Hand Taser is frequently the only weapon you can use on enemies that you must incapacitate without killing them. To use it without being seen, equip the Hand Taser and then sneak up behind an enemy. When you get close enough to touch them, press the Square button to shock them into unconsciousness with the Hand Taser. If you get too close to an enemy, they will become aware of you when you bump into them. You may also try waiting around the corner from an enemy, and then quickly using the Hand Taser when they come into your view.
Using the Sniper Rifle
When you hold the L1 button to manually aim the sniper rifle, you will see things as if you were peering through the sniper rifle's targeting scope. While in this sniper view you can press the Triangle button to zoom in and the Circle button to zoom out.
When someone walks into the "X" that's in the center of your sniper view the "X" will change into a diamond, and the name of the body part you're targeting appears on-screen. Always aim for the head when you must kill an enemy without alerting them to your presence. If you're trying to avoid detection, it's not a good idea to use the sniper rifle on enemies that are near each other. Most enemies will notice when they're buddy falls over dead.
