PlayStation®2 30000 - 50000 Series / HDD

Using Folders

Internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD) installation will change the way you store and manage saved game data on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. The biggest change is the addition of folders that can be used to store saved game data on the HDD. The HDD also changes the options you have for handling data on a memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2).

  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 system and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Select the HDD icon on the Browser screen and press X Btn to view the contents of your HDD.

  1. Move the cursor to highlight the HDD icon in the upper left corner of your screen.
  2. Press X Btn to access the Options menu for the HDD. "Create Folder" will appear on-screen.
  3. Press Triangle Btn to create a new folder.

  1. Enter a name for your folder using the on-screen keyboard.

    NOTE: You can use a USB keyboard to enter information by plugging it into one of the USB connectors on the front of the PlayStation®2 system.

  2. Press Enter to create the folder.

  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Select the HDD icon on the Browser screen and press X Btn to view the contents of your HDD.
  4. Highlight a folder in your HDD and press X Btn to view that folder's contents.
  5. Highlight one of the saved game data icons inside the folder and press Triangle Btn to view options for that icon. The options include Copy, Move, Rename, Delete, and Information. Please see the following topics for more information about these options.


NOTES:

  • It is generally not possible to rename saved game data.
  • Folders and software icons are listed in the order in which they were created.

To copy a folder: Back to top


  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Highlight the HDD icon and press X Btn to examine its contents.
  4. Highlight the folder you want to copy and press Triangle Btn to view the options for that folder.
  5. Select Copy and press X Btn.

  1. To confirm your decision to copy the selected folder onto your HDD, highlight Yes and press X Btn.
    - or -
    Press Circle Btn to cancel and return to the previous screen.

  1. Enter a name for the new folder using the on-screen keyboard.

    NOTE: You can use a USB keyboard to enter information by plugging it into one of the USB connectors on the front of the PlayStation®2 system.

  2. Press Enter to create the new folder.

    NOTES:

    • Do not turn off your system until the procedure is completed.
    • You cannot copy a folder inside another folder.


To rename a folder: Back to top


  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 system and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Select the HDD icon on the Browser screen and press X Btn to view the contents of your HDD.

  1. Highlight the folder you want to rename and press Triangle Btn to view the options for that folder.
  2. Select Rename and press X Btn.

  1. Enter a name for the folder using the on-screen keyboard.

    NOTE: You can use a USB keyboard to enter information by plugging it into one of the USB connectors on the front of the PlayStation®2 system.



  1. Press Enter to rename the folder.
  2. You should now see the renamed folder on-screen.
  3. Press Circle Btn to return to the HDD browser screen.


NOTE: Some types of data cannot be copied.

Deleting a folder will remove the folder and all the game data that it contains from your HDD. Be careful when you do this because there's no way to recover saved games that were in a deleted folder.

  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 system and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Select the HDD icon on the Browser screen and press X Btn to view the contents of your HDD.

  1. Highlight the folder you want to delete and press Triangle Btn to view the options for that folder.
  2. Select Delete and press X Btn.

  1. Highlight Yes to confirm your decision to delete the folder and press X Btn to delete the folder and all of its contents.

    Press Circle Btn to cancel and return to the previous screen.

  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 system and make sure the disc tray is empty.
  2. Select Browser from the Main Menu and press X Btn.
  3. Select the HDD icon on the Browser screen and press X Btn to view the contents of your HDD.
  4. Highlight the folder you want to view and press Triangle to view the options for that folder.
  5. Select Information and press X Btn.
  6. Information about the folder, such as the creation date, will appear.
