Optimizing Your HDD

Optimizing your internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD) can create additional free space on the HDD. Optimize your HDD only if you've received a message that there isn't enough space to install software or data on the HDD. Optimizing the HDD is most effective if done after software or data has been deleted from the HDD.

To optimize your HDD:

  1. Insert the HDD Utility Disc CD-ROM into the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and close the disc tray.
  2. A screen will appear listing the controls for navigating the HDD Utility Disc. Press X Btn to bypass this screen.
  3. Highlight Optimize HDD on the main menu and press X Btn.
  4. Press the Right Arrow Btn. to scroll past the screen labeled "Optimizing the HDD 1/2."
  5. Press X Btn on the screen labeled "Optimizing the HDD 2/2."

  1. Highlight Yes to confirm you want to optimize the HDD and press X Btn.

NOTE: This operation may take a long time to complete depending on the volume and location of data stored on your HDD. Once optimization is underway, do not turn off your PlayStation®2, open the disc tray, or remove the HDD from your PlayStation®2.
