Diagnosis and Repair the HDD

Use Diagnose and Repair your internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD) only if you've received an on-screen message indicating that there are errors on your HDD. Note that data on your HDD containing errors might be erased during this procedure. Diagnosis and repairs can take a long time to complete depending on the volume and location of data stored on your HDD.

To use the Diagnose and Repair HDD feature:

  1. Insert the HDD Utility Disc into the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and close the disc tray.
  2. A screen will appear listing controls for navigating the HDD Utility Disc. Press X Btn to bypass this screen.
  3. Highlight Diagnose and Repair HDD on the main menu and press X Btn.
