Installing the HDD Software

The HDD Software allows you to examine the contents of your internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD) in the system's browser screen. This software also adds mouse and keyboard options to your system's System Configuration menu and adds a few new options to the CD Player. You should reinstall HDD Software if you are unable to view the contents of your HDD in your system's browser.

To install the HDD software:

  1. Insert the HDD Utility Disc into the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and close the disc tray.
  2. A screen will appear listing the controls for navigating the HDD Utility Disc. Press X Btn to bypass this screen.
  3. Highlight Install HDD Software on the main menu and press X Btn.
  4. Three screens will appear explaining the installation of HDD Software.

    NOTE: Installing the HDD Software will revert your mouse and keyboard system settings to their original, default values.


  1. Press the right arrow button twice to advance to the screen labeled "Installing the HDD Software 3/3."
  2. Press X Btn to begin software installation. When asked "Are you sure?" highlight Yes and press X Btn to confirm your choice and begin software installation.

    Press Circle Btn to cancel installation and return to the main menu.

  1. If HDD Software is detected on your HDD, you'll be asked if you want to overwrite it. Highlight Yes and press X Btn.

    Press Circle Btn to cancel installation and return to the main menu.
  2. A screen will appear indicating installation progress.

    NOTE: Do not turn off your PlayStation®2, open the disc tray, or remove the HDD from your PlayStation®2 until the procedure is completed.

  3. A message will appear confirming, "HDD software installation completed."
