Installing DVD Player Software

The Install DVD Player utility installs updated DVD Player software to a Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) from the internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD) Utility Disc. This installation is not necessary for Series 500XX consoles. If you delete the DVD Player software from your memory card at some later date, you can reinstall it from the HDD Utility Disc at any time.

To install DVD player software (ver. 3.02):

  1. Insert a Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) with at least 2,200k of available space into memory card slot 1 of your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.
  2. Insert the HDD Utility Disc into the PlayStation®2 and close the disc tray.
  3. A screen will appear listing the controls for navigating the HDD Utility Disc. Press X Btn to bypass this screen.
  4. Highlight Install DVD Player Software on the main menu and press X Btn.
  5. Three screens will appear providing information about the DVD Player (ver. 3.02). Press the right arrow button twice to advance to the page labeled "Installing DVD Player (ver. 3.02) 3/3" and press X Btn.

  1. You will be asked to confirm your choice to install the DVD Player (3.02) Software. Highlight Yes, then press X Btn to begin installation.

    Press Circle Btn to cancel and return to the main menu.
  2. A screen will appear indicating software installation progress.

    NOTE: Do not turn off your PlayStation®2, open the disc tray, or remove the HDD from your PlayStation®2 until the procedure is completed.


  1. A message will appear confirming "Installation of DVD Player software (ver. 3.02) completed."
