If you are having problems running PlayStation®2 format software, CDs,
or DVDs on your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system:
Make sure the disc is inserted correctly, with the label side up.
Static electricity and other factors may affect the operation of the
PlayStation®2 system. Turn off the main power switch and then turn it
back on.
Some PlayStation® format software titles might not play properly on
a PlayStation®2. PlayStation® format software titles perform
differently on a PlayStation®2 system than they do on a
PlayStation® system. Make sure the disc can be used with this
system.
Make sure the underside of the disc is clean. If a game begins to skip
or freeze, or if there is no reaction whatsoever from a disc that has
been inserted in the system, it might need to be cleaned. To clean the
disc:
Use the small, circular pads made specifically for cleaning
discs, sold at most music or computer software stores.
If you do not have a cleaning pad, you can clean the disc using
a clean, lint-free cloth.
NOTE: Other materials, such as a paper towel or a T-shirt,
may scratch the disc. If there are any scratches,
smudges, or fingerprints on the disc, it may not
function properly.
If possible, try to play the disc on another PlayStation®2 system.
If the disc still does not play properly, the disc might need to
be replaced.
If the disc does play properly, the original PlayStation®2
might need repairs. Please see
How to Obtain Service.
In rare instances, certain DVDs do not operate properly with the
PlayStation®2. The problem is primarily due to variations in the
manufacturing processes or software encoding of the DVD video software.
