Playing a DVD

To play a DVD on your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system: Back to top


  1. Turn on the console with the MAIN POWER switch on the back of the console. Make sure the indicator light on the front of the console turns red.
  2. Press the standby/RESET button on the front of the console. Make sure the indicator light turns green.
  3. Press the open button, insert a disc into the tray, label side up, and close the disc tray.
  4. The DVD will start to play and content will appear on the screen.

To stop a DVD: Back to top


  1. While the DVD is playing, press Select Btn to display the Control Panel.
  2. Use the directional buttons to select the Stop (square) icon.
  3. Press X Btn to stop the DVD.

To play a DVD from the last stopping point (resume play): Back to top


  1. After stopping the DVD, use the directional buttons to select the Play (right arrow) icon.
  2. Press X Btn to restart the DVD.

To start playing a DVD from a specific scene: Back to top


  1. While the DVD is playing, press Select Btn to display the Control Panel.
  2. Select a scene.
    • To select a scene by chapter number:
      • Use the directional buttons to select a two digit number. If you want to play chapters 1 � 9, use a leading zero. For example, 01 or 09.
      • Press X Btn to play the chapter.
    • To select a scene by title number or by specifying a time:
      • Use the directional buttons to select the "To Go" (curved, right arrow) icon and press X Btn.
      • Use the directional buttons to select "Title" or "C (or T) XX:XX:XX" and press X Btn.
      • Use the directional buttons to select the number of the title or the elapsed time for the scene.
      • Press X Btn to play the chapter.

  1. While the DVD is playing, press Select Btn to display the Control Panel.
  2. Use the directional buttons to select the Search Fast Forward or Search Fast Reverse icons.
  3. Hold down X Btn until you find the scene you want.
    • The fast forward/fast reverse modes have four speeds. To speed up or slow down the speed, press the up or down arrow buttons while holding down X Btn.
  4. Release X Btn to play the scene.

  1. While the DVD is playing, press Select Btn to display the Control Panel.
  2. Use the directional buttons to select the Time Display (clock and reel).
  3. Press X Btn to display playback information.
  4. Keep pressing X Btn to scroll through the playback information in the following order:
    • Title number and title chapter
    • Elapsed time of current chapter
    • Remaining time of current chapter
    • Elapsed time of current title
    • Remaining time of current title
