CD Troubleshooting

If there is no sound: Back to top

  • Make sure the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and TV (and VCR if using one) are turned on and that they are securely connected using the AV cable (integrated audio/video), RFU adaptor, or S VIDEO Cable.
  • Visually check to make sure the AC power cord is not damaged. Please see PlayStation®2 70000 Series or PlayStation®2 30000-50000 Series Installation Instructions for help with set up.
  • Adjust the TV volume to make sure it's not turned down low or on mute.

  • Make sure you have selected the correct video input and channel on your TV or VCR.
  • If you are using speakers, check the speaker connections and settings. For example, you might not have selected the appropriate input on the receiver (amplifier).
    • Set the input so that you can listen to sound through your PlayStation®2.
    • Refer to the operating manual of your audio equipment.

If the sound quality is poor: Back to top

  • The CD might need cleaning. To clean the CD:
    • Use the small, circular pads made specifically for cleaning discs, sold at most music or computer software stores.
    • If you do not have a cleaning pad, you can use a dry, lint-free cloth.

NOTE: Other materials, such as a paper towel or a T-shirt, may scratch the CD. If there are any scratches, smudges, or fingerprints on the CD, it may not function properly.

  • The system might be unstable. Place the system on a flat, stable surface and do not allow it to shake or vibrate.
  • You might be playing a CD with DTS audio tracks. CDs with DTS audio tracks can only be used with your PlayStation®2 when the system is connected to audio equipment with a DTS decoder.

The sound comes from the center speaker only: Back to top

You might be playing a CD that sends sound through the center speaker only.
