Sound Troubleshooting

If there is no sound: Back to top

Make sure the volume is not set to zero. Try raising the volume using the volume buttons located on the front of the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system.

Make sure the mute setting is not on. Press the sound button located on the front of the PSP® to clear the mute setting.

If headphones are inserted, the PSP® will not send any sound through the speakers. To check that the speakers work, unplug the headphones.

If the volume does not turn up: Back to top

  • Make sure the AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) feature is turned off. When turned on, the AVLS feature limits the maximum volume of the headphones. For more information about the AVLS feature, see Using Sound.

If the sound quality is poor: Back to top

  • If the PSP® is used in an area where there are vibrations, or if it is near strong magnetic objects, such as TVs, the sound may be distorted and there may be background noise. Try moving the PSP® to a different location.
  • If you are listening to an audio file, check the quality of the recording.

If there is no sound or the sound quality from the headphones is poor: Back to top

  • Make sure the headphones are fully inserted in the PSP®.
  • Make sure the headset connector and the headphone plugs are clean. If not, wipe them with a dry, soft cloth.
