Saving to a Memory Stick Duo™ Using a Computer
The Memory Stick Duo™ is the storage media used by the
PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system. It can be used to store
game data, music, videos, photos and other downloaded content. You can
save files to your Memory Stick Duo™ by connecting it to a
computer for most content. You can also reverse this process to save
files to a computer from a Memory Stick Duo™ for back-up purposes.
Note: Some content can be saved directly to a Memory Stick
Duo™ while it's in your PSP®. For more information, see Saving Directly to a Memory Stick

To save to a Memory Stick Duo™
using a computer:
- Connect your Memory Stick Duo™ to a computer using one
of the following methods:
- Insert into the Memory Stick™ slot on the computer or
use a Memory Stick Duo™ Adaptor.
- Connect a Memory Stick reader/writer with a USB cable.
- Connect your PSP®, with the Memory Stick Duo™
inserted, with a USB cable.
- Plug the Mini-B side of the USB cable into the top of your
PSP® system.
- Plug the Standard-A side of the USB cable into your
computer.
- If you connected the Memory Stick Duo™ with a USB
connection, you must activate the connection on the PSP®:
- Select
(USB) under
(Settings) in the home menu.
- Press
.
- Your computer will indicate that it detects the Memory Stick
Duo™/PSP®.
Note: The computer might
recognize the Memory Stick Duo™ /PSP® as a "Removable Disk
Drive" or "Removable Storage" or as "Memory Stick Media".
- Browse to the Memory Stick Duo™ on your computer.
- Save the files from your computer to the Memory Stick
Duo™ by following the instructions for saving the type of media
or file:
- If you connected the Memory Stick Duo™ with a USB
connection, you can now disconnect the USB cable from your computer and
PSP®.
- To use the saved files on your PSP®, remove the Memory
Stick Duo™ from your computer and insert it into the PSP®
(see Inserting
and Removing a Memory Stick Duo for details). Access the new content
on your PSP® as you would any content of the same media type.
Notes:
- Compatible Formats
Files must be in the correct format in order to be viewed on the
PSP®. For more Files must be in the correct format in order to be

The amount of data you can save to your Memory Stick Duo™ will
depend on the storage capacity of the Memory Stick Duo™ (they
come in various sizes) and the amount of information already saved.
There must be enough available space for the files you wish to save on
your Memory Stick Duo™. For information about how to check for
available space, see System
Check. If you need more room on a Memory Stick Duo™, you might
be able to delete data. For details, see Deleting Data
from a Memory Stick Duo™.
- Formatting
If this is the first time you've used the Memory Stick Duo™, you
must format it for use with your PSP®. For instructions, see Formatting a
Memory Stick Duo™.
- Folder Structure
Files must be saved in specific folders using appropriate names to be
viewed on the PSP®. If you have problems accessing content, see About Memory
Stick Duo™ Folder Structure.
- Compatibility
The PSP® is not compatible with the standard size Memory
Stick™.
- Operating Systems
The PSP® is compatible with operating systems that can recognize
removable storage devices and support the USB mass storage class, such
as Windows XP Home/Professional, Mac OS X, and others. If your
operating system supports removable storage devices, you can see the
PSP® on your computer when it is connected. When using operating
systems that do not come with support for USB mass storage devices, you
might need to download additional software or drivers to enable support
for these devices. Contact the manufacturer of your computer or
operating system for additional assistance.
