Using Headphones

The PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) headphones are designed for comfort. They do not have equal cord length between the Left (L) headphone and the Right (R) headphone.

  1. Wear the headphone marked "L" (left) in your left ear.
  2. Loop the wire behind your neck and wear the headphone marked "R" (right) in your right ear.

The microphone on the PSP® Headset must be plugged into the remote control in order to function.

  1. Plug the remote into the PSP®.
  2. Then plug the PSP® Headset into the remote.

To adjust the tone Back to top


  1. Press the sound X Btn button on the bottom right of the PSP®.
  2. Continue to press the sound button to change the tone as follows:
    • Heavy: Strengthens both bass and treble to produce an intense sound.
    • Pop: Strengthens the mid-range; ideal for vocals.
    • Jazz: Strengthens both bass and treble to produce a balanced sound.
    • Unique: Strengthens bass, treble and mid-range sound.
    • Off: Normal tone.

Note: Tone can only be adjusted when using headphones during audio feedback. The tone setting is temporarily set to Off during gameplay.

If there is no sound, or the sound quality from the headphones is poor Back to top


  • Make sure the headphones are fully inserted into the PSP®.
  • Make sure the headset connector and the headphone plugs are clean. If not, wipe them with a dry, soft cloth.

Using headphones with the remote control Back to top


To connect the headphones to the remote control:

  1. Plug the headphones into the remote control.
  2. Plug the other end of the remote control into the headset connector located at the bottom left of the PSP®.

If the headphone remote control does not work:

  • Make sure the headset connector and the headphone plugs are clean. If not, wipe them with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Make sure the headphones are fully inserted into the PSP®.
  • Make sure the PSP® is not in hold mode. (The hold switch locks the operation of the remote control.) If it is, turn off the hold switch to release the lock.
