Keep your PSP® System Software up-to-date so your PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system will continue to evolve. Find out what's included in the most recent system software update and update yours today.


To find out the version your PSP® system software:

  1. Select System Settings Icon(System Settings) under Settings Icon(Settings) from the home menu, then select System Information.
  2. The System Software field will display the version number of the system software installed on your PSP®.

Note: Some games and media require that you update your system software version before you can use them. If so, the required system update is often included on the UMD™ (Universal Media Disc) game disc.

If you want to save new content to your Memory Stick Duo™, it must have enough available space.


To check how much space is available on a Memory Stick Duo™:

  1. Insert the Memory Stick Duo™ into the PSP®. For details, see Inserting and Removing a Memory Stick Duo™.
  2. Select Photo Icon(Photo), Video Icon(Video), or Game Icon(Game) from the home menu.
  3. Highlight Memory Stick Duo(Memory Stick Duo™).
  4. The available space on the Memory Stick Duo™ will display on-screen a s "Free Space."

Note: If there is not enough space, you might be able to delete some of the data. For more information, see Deleting Data from a Memory Stick Duo™.

When you are using your PSP® to perform operations that require saving data to or reading data from the Memory Stick Duo™, it's important that you don't run out of battery power in the middle of the operation. We recommend you fully charge the battery pack before updating the PSP® system software.


To check how much battery power is available:

Check the battery charge level displayed on the top right of the screen.

Estimating the remaining battery power:


Plenty of battery power remaining



Battery power is getting low



Battery power has almost run out



No battery power remains (the power indicator will flash green)
