Using Music/Audio Controls

Under Music icon (Music) in the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system home menu, the following icons are displayed:



UMD icon
UMD™
Play UMD™ (Universal Media Disc) MUSIC. This icon will only appear when a UMD™ MUSIC disc is inserted. If you select the icon, a thumbnail will display.


Memory Stick icon
Memory Stick
Play music/audio saved on a Memory Stick Duo™. This icon will appear only when a Memory Stick Duo™ is inserted.

While you are using the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system to listen to music or other audio content, the buttons on the front of the PSP® function as follows:

L button
Play the current track from the beginning. Press the button again to scroll back through the tracks.


R button
Play the next track. Press the button again to scroll forward through the tracks.


Display or hide the control panel.


Play a track or confirm a choice.


Stop a track, go back to the previous screen or exit a function.


Right button Left button
Play or fast-forward/fast-reverse playback.


Select button
Display information about the track or stop fast-forward/fast-reverse.


Start button
Pause or start playback.

Use the on-screen music control panel to control the music/audio playback, display information, and access other music functions.

Using the Music Control Panel:

  • While music/audio is playing, press Triangle button at any time to display the music control panel.
  • Select one of the option icons and press X button. For example, to pause playback, select the Pause icon and press X button .
  • To clear the music control panel, press the Triangle button or Circle button button.

Previous Group icon
Previous Group
Return to the beginning of the previous group. For more information, see Using Music Groups.


Next Group icon
Next Group
Skip to the beginning of the next group. For more information, see Using Music Groups.


Previous Track icon
Previous Track
Return to the beginning of the track currently playing or to the beginning of the previous track.


Next Track icon
Next Track
Skip to the beginning of the next track.


Fast Reverse/Fast Forward icon
Fast Forward
Play in fast-reverse/fast-forward.


Play icon
Play
Play a track.


Pause icon
Pause
Pause playback.


Stop icon
Stop
Stop playback.


Group Mode icon
Group Mode)
Switch to Group Mode. For more information, see Using Music Groups.


A-B Repeat icon
A-B Repeat
Specify a part of a track, then play that part repeatedly.


MODE icon
Mode
Switch to Play Mode.


Clear icon
Clear
Clear Group Mode, Play Mode, and A-B Repeat settings.


Display icon
Display
Display the album name, track number, and total number of tracks.


Help Icon
Help
Display the functions of the PSP® buttons.

During music/audio playback, information about the track is displayed on screen. Different areas of the screen tell you different information such as album name, track name, track number/total number of tracks. See the information on the screen below for more details.

Under Settings icon (Settings) in the home menu, select Settings icon (Sound Settings) to access the following settings:

  • AVLS
    Turn on or off the Automatic Volume Limiter System feature, which limits the maximum volume. For more information, see Using Sound.
  • Key Tone
    Turn the key tone feature on or off, setting whether the PSP® makes a confirmation sound when you press a button. For more information, see Using Sound.
