Music CD Troubleshooting

If you are having problems playing music CDs on your PlayStation® game console:

  • Make sure the disc is inserted correctly, with the label side up, and that the disc tray is firmly closed.
  • Make sure the underside of the CD is clean. If a CD begins to skip or freeze, or if there is no reaction whatsoever from a CD that has been inserted in the console, it might need cleaning. To clean the CD:
    • Use the small, circular pads made specifically for cleaning discs, sold at most music or computer software stores.
    • If you do not have a cleaning pad, you can clean the disc using a dry, lint-free cloth.
NOTE: Other materials, such as paper towels or a T-shirt, may scratch the disc. If there are any scratches, smudges, or fingerprints on the disc, it may not function properly.
  • If possible, try to play the CD on another console.
    • If the CD still does not play correctly, the CD might need to be replaced.
    • If the CD does play correctly, the PlayStation® console might need repairs. Please see How to Obtain Service.
  • If problems persist, please contact Consumer Services.
