- Game

- Friends
- You can now do text chat with people on your Friends list. You can also participate in text chat during gameplay.
- The order in which Friends are listed in the Friends list has been changed. You can now sort by name (alphabetical order) and by status, listing both online and offline Friends by the last time online. When you have pending requests to add Users as Friends, the icons for these Users are now displayed at the top of the Friends list.
- The maximum size for files that can be attached to messages has been increased to 3 MB.
- Settings
- [Dynamic Normalizer] has been added as an option under [Music Settings].
- Video
- You can now selectively back up content (file type MNV) that was downloaded from the Video Store of PlayStation®Store and you can restore files that you selectively backed up to the same PS3™ system. You can use this feature to back up both SD (standard definition) and HD (high definition) resolution content.
- Game
- New for 2.76: The playback quality of some PlayStation®3 format software has been improved.
- You can now easily search the Internet for information about your PlayStation®3 format software, as well as for games you purchased from PlayStation®Store. Select the icon for the game, and then select [Internet Search] from the options menu to get search results based on the game title.
- Network
- You can now copy and paste text from a Web page viewed in the Internet browser.
- [Copy Address of This Page] and [Copy Address of This Link] have been added as options under [File] in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser.
- [Browser Security] has been added as an option to the browse mode menu of the Internet browser. The websites for the Web filtering services that used to be listed under [Bookmarks] have been moved under this new option.

- Photo
- You can now use a new application called Photo Gallery to enhance your experience of viewing photos. Using Photo Gallery, you can group photos in various ways and create playlists of selected photos. You can also select a photo frame for each playlist that you create.

- You can now access PlayStation®Store without a PlayStation®Network account.

- [Sync with Server] has been added as an option under [Trophy Collection].
- By pressing the PS button while playing PlayStation®3 format software, you can now view information from the [Settings and Connection Status List] option under [Network Settings].*

- Users
- You now have an option to set the PS3™ system to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system under [Users] > [Turn Off System] while content is being downloaded or installed.
- Settings
- [BD/DVD Settings] has been renamed to [Video Settings].
- Under [Video Settings], the [Cinema Conversion] option has been renamed to [BD/DVD Cinema Conversion] and the [Upscale] option has been renamed to [BD/DVD Upscaler].
- [Sequential Playback] has been added as an option under [Video Settings].
- [DivX® VOD Registration Code] has been added under [System Settings]. You must use this registration code to authenticate and register the PS3™ system to be able to play video files that are compatible with the DivX® VOD (Video On Demand) service on your system. - [Power Save Settings] has been added as an option under [Settings]. To save power, the PS3™ system and wireless controllers can be set to turn off automatically after a certain period of inactivity.
- Under [Accessory Settings] > [Audio Device Settings], the method for reconnecting Bluetooth® devices has been changed.
- Under [Accessory Settings] > [Keyboard Type], you can now choose the following keyboard types: [German Keyboard (Switzerland)], [French Keyboard (Canada)] and [French Keyboard (Switzerland)].
- Under [Printer Settings] > [Printer Selection], you can now select printers that support network connectivity. You can also select HP printers using the [HP] option.
- Music
- You can now select one of nine volume output levels using the [Volume Control] setting on the control panel (or the mini-size control panel).
- [Pause] has been added as an icon on the mini-size control panel.
- Video
- You can now select one of nine volume output levels using the [Volume Control] setting on the control panel.
- [Scene Search] has been added as an option on the control panel.
- You can now use the [Mosquito Noise Reduction] setting for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. Use this setting to reduce mosquito noise that appears on the edges of visual images.
- During BD (BDAV) and DVD playback, a technique known as "chroma upsampling" is now automatically selected based on the movement of objects within the video content and then applied to enhance images in the content.
- Friends
- You can now view information about the most recent sign-in for Friends who are on your Friends list.*
* If you do not set the correct date and time in the [Date and Time] settings under [Settings] > [Date and Time Settings], this information may not be displayed.
- Game
- New for 2.52: The playback quality of some PlayStation®3 format software has been improved.
- New for 2.52: A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth® keyboard with some PlayStation®3 format software has been addressed.

- Network
- New for 2.43:The version 2.43 system software update supports the release of video rental content on the PlayStation®Store for the Japan region.
- You do not need to perform this update if your PS3™ system software is version 2.42 or later. However if you do perform the update, it will not harm your system.
- If your PS3™ system software has not been updated to at least version 2.41, the system will prompt you to update to version 2.43 when you sign in to the PlayStation®Network.
- You can now perform an Internet search directly from the XMB™ screen
- [Search] has been added as an option in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser.
- Game
- You can now access the XMB™ screen while playing PlayStation®3 format software
- Playability of some PlayStation®3 and PlayStation® format software has been improved
- The procedure for quitting PlayStation®3 format software has been changed.
- You can now collect trophies in games that support the trophy feature.

- You can now see the system clock on the XMB™ screen. The date and time that were set under [Settings] > [Date and Time] are displayed.

- You can now turn off the PS3™ system from the XMB™ screen using the [Turn Off System] option.

- You can now set the PS3™ system to turn off automatically after updating the system software.
- [Reassign Controllers] and [Controller Vibration Function] have been added as options under [Accessory Settings].

- You can now print images from a playlist.
- You can now sort items that are grouped in a folder by month or year using the

- You can now play upscaled video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. When the video content is played, it is upscaled automatically to match the screen size.
- Upscaling of Blu-ray Disc (BDAV) video content is now supported.
- For DTS playback on DVD-Video and Blu-ray Disc media, DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video and DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs are now supported.*

- [Save Target] has been added as an option under [File] in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser. This option lets you save a file that is linked from a Web page, such as an image or video file, or other type of file, to your PS3™ system's hard disk drive or storage media.
- The Internet browser now displays some Web pages faster.
- Using the Internet browser, you can now play a linked video file* as it is being downloaded.
*Some types of video files cannot be viewed in this manner and must be downloaded completely before playback.

- Precision Zoom: You can automatically enlarge to optimal viewing size the area on the screen where the pointer is located. By analyzing the Web page source, the system automatically calculates the best enlargement ratio based on the area where the pointer is located.
- Adjusting the resolution: You can adjust Web page size for optimal viewing based on the PS3™ system’s video output resolution. A setting to reduce flickering of the screen when outputting in interlace mode has also been added.
- You can now use a full-size on-screen keyboard to enter text
- Support for background downloading of data has been added.
- You can now download and use the Folding@home™ program. Folding@home™ is a distributed computing project that is run by Stanford University. The goal of the project is to research protein folding mechanisms in the hope that this will lead to medical treatments for related diseases. Using the Folding@home™ program, you can participate in this project over the Internet. Note that the program must first be downloaded and installed on your PS3™ system.
- You can now use the remote play feature from a PSP® system via an access point. You can establish a remote play connection with a PS3™ system that is not equipped with the wireless LAN feature (20 GB model)
- Support for playback of BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc Rewritable) ver 3.0 has been added.
- The PS3™ system can now automatically detect an HDMI connection to a TV. If the PS3™ system is turned on with an HDMI cable connected, the screen for switching video output settings will be displayed automatically.*
* Does not function unless the TV that is connected by the HDMI cable is turned on.
* If you are already using the HDMI OUT connector, the screen for switching video output settings will not be displayed.
