Auto-Saving
Upon beginning a new Jax and Daxter game (by selecting New Game at the title screen), you will be asked to select a save file. Choose from the four available slots and press the X button to begin your game. This will also activate the game's auto-save feature. The auto-save feature will automatically save your game for you upon the collection of each Power Cell, as well as a few other instances. This is indicated by a check-marked memory card icon appearing in the lower-left hand corner of your screen. This leaves you to concentrate on the fun part of the game, playing it. No need to worry about loading times either, because there are none. This means that the auto-save function will not interrupt your gameplay in any way.
Note: If at any time during gameplay you remove your MEMORY CARD (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) ⁃from your system, you will receive a message stating that the auto-save feature has been disabled. You must manually save your game through the options menu to re-enable auto-save.
Manual Saving
You may also save a game from the Pause Screen during gameplay. Simply pause the game using the Start button, then press the Circle button to enter the Options menu. Scroll down to Save Game and press the X button. Once again, highlight the file that you would like to save your progress to, then press the X button. This will also enable the auto-save feature.
Loading from the Title Screen
Press Start at the Jak and Daxter title screen, then choose "Load Game" at the following menu. Use your D-Pad or Analog stick to highlight the save file that you would like to load and press the X button. You will then receive a "Loading" message and Jak and Daxter will appear in the designated area shortly thereafter.
Loading from the Pause Screen
You may also load a game from the Pause Screen during gameplay. Simply pause the game using the Start button, then press the Circle button to enter the Options menu. Scroll down to Load Game and press the X button. Once again, highlight the save file that you would like to load, then press the X button.
Note: Each save file will have a number of identifying features, such as: the name of the last area you visited, the number of Power Cells, Precursor Orbs and Scout Flies that you have collected, the percentage of the game completed thus far as well as the date the last save was made and your total time of gameplay.
