Installing Your PlayStation® Using an AV Cable

PlayStation® Model 1001: Back to top

To install your PlayStation® game console (model 1001) using an AV cable (integrated audio/video):

  1. Connect the cables

Connect the AV cable to the audio and video OUT ports on the back of the PlayStation®. Match the ends of the cable to the ports by color: yellow to yellow, red to red, and white to white.

  • Connect the plugs on the other end of the AV cable to the audio and video inputs on the back of your TV or VCR, matching colors. If there is no red input on your TV or VCR, let the red plug dangle. Make sure the connections are secure.

NOTE: Some TV inputs are not color-coded correctly. If this is the case, plug the yellow plug into the VIDEO IN input, the white plug into the AUDIO IN Left input, and the red plug into the AUDIO IN Right input. If there is no port for the red plug, let it dangle.

  • Connect the AC power cord to the PlayStation® console.

  • Plug it into a working electrical outlet.

  1. Start the console

Press the on/standby/RESET button on the front of the console. Make sure the indicator light turns green.

  • Press the open button, insert a PlayStation® disc into the PlayStation®, and close the cover.

  1. Set up the TV

    Turn on your TV.

  • Press the TV/Video button on your TV's remote control. The TV/Video button might also be called the Input, AUX, or Line button on your remote. Use the setting you would if you were going to watch a movie.

NOTE: You might need to set your TV to channel 00, 90, 91, or 92.
