PlayStation®2 30000 - 50000 Series / HDD

Reinstalling the HDD

To reinstall the internal hard disk drive (40GB) (for PlayStation®2) (HDD):

  1. Turn off the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and remove the HDD unit (the network adaptor and the HDD combined) from the system.
  2. Restart the PlayStation®2 system, place the HDD Utility Disc (ver 1.10) on the disc tray, and close the tray, starting the utility disc.
  3. When a message reading "The HDD unit is not installed... Then, install the HDD unit and start over" appears, simultaneously press the L1 Btn,  L2 Btn,  R1 Btn,  R2 Btn,  Select Btn, and  Start Btn buttons.

  1. Turn off the PlayStation®2, then reinstall the HDD unit in the PlayStation®2. Please see Install the HDD.
  2. Start the HDD Utility Disc (ver 1.10). Please see Using the HDD Utility Disc.
  3. Reinstall the HDD software. Please see Installing HDD Software.
