If the internal HDD browser, system configuration, or CD player functions seem slow: Back to top


  • You may have left the HDD inactive for over 20 minutes after start-up, causing it to enter sleep mode. There may be a slightly delayed response to the first operation.

  • The HDD unit may not be properly installed in your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Please see Install the HDD, and install the HDD unit properly.

If there is a light flashing inside the PlayStation®2: Back to top


  • The flashing light is normal. It lets you know that the PlayStation®2 is accessing the HDD.

If you see a message about damage to the HDD when you start the HDD Utility Disc: Back to top


If "Error" appears in the MAC Address field of the Version Information screen: Back to top


If the console�s CD player does not respond to the DVD remote control*: Back to top


  • To use the DVD remote control (for PlayStation®2), you must remove the HDD from the console. Otherwise, use the analog controller (DUALSHOCK®2) or contact Consumer Services for technical support.

    *The DVD remote controls (for PlayStation®2) are models numbers SCPH-50001, SCPH-50001/N or SCPH-50010/N only and are sold separately.

  • The game software must be configured to support this feature and not all games support this feature. You can copy data from a memory card to the HDD for archiving purposes. Please see Browsing the HDD Using Folders.

If you want to use the HDD without an internet connection or network adaptor: Back to top


  • An internet connection is not required to use certain features of the HDD. Check the feature notices on the back of the game box to determine if a particular game is supported by the HHD, or if it requires an internet connection.

If you want to use the HDD to store and play MP3 files: Back to top


  • The HDD does not support storing and playing MP3 files.

If your HDD or PlayStation®2 console shuts down when you exit FFXI: Back to top


  • Most HDD-compatible software will place the HDD and console in standby mode when you exit or quit the program. This is normal. To avoid losing data while running FFXI (or any other HDD-compatible game), you should always exit or quit from the main menu.
