Using the Battery Pack

Before using the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system for the first time, the battery pack must be fully charged.

To charge the battery pack: Back to top

  1. Plug the AC power cord into the AC adaptor.
  2. Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN 5V connector located at the bottom right of the PSP®.
  3. Plug the AC power cord into a working electrical outlet. Make sure the power indicator light turns orange, indicating that charging has begun.

NOTE: Do not plug the AC power cord into the electrical outlet until you have made all other connections.

  4. When the battery pack is fully charged, the power indicator light will turn off.
  5. Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet and disconnect the AC adaptor from the PSP®.

To insert/replace the battery pack: Back to top

  1. To remove the battery pack cover, hold down the Push button on the back of the PSP® and slide the cover as indicated.
  2. Insert the battery pack by aligning the bottom of the battery pack with the PSP®.
  3. To replace the battery pack cover, align the tabs of the cover with the spaces on the PSP® and slide the battery cover until it locks firmly in place.

NOTE: If the PSP® is left unused after the battery pack has been removed, the date and time settings might be reset. If this occurs, the date and time setting screen will be displayed the next time the PSP® is turned on.

To store the battery pack: Back to top

  1. When the PSP® will not be used for an extended period of time, remove the battery pack from the system.
  2. Store the battery pack in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children.

Battery pack charging tips: Back to top

  • If the power indicator flashes green while playing a game, save game progress and recharge the battery pack. If the battery pack runs out before you save, game progress will be lost.
  • Charge in a temperature of 50 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to 30 degrees Celsius). Charging may not be as effective in other environments.
  • The charge level display may vary slightly from the actual charge level, depending on the usage conditions and environmental factors, such as temperature. If the display is not correct, use the battery pack until it is completely out of power and then recharge.
  • Note that the display may not be accurate in the following conditions:
    • If the battery pack is used for extended periods in conditions of high temperature.
    • If the battery pack is not used for a long time after recharging.
    • If the battery pack has been recharged many times.
  • Estimated Battery Pack Duration
    • Gameplay: Approximately 3 - 6 hours
    • Video Playback: Approximately 3 - 5 hours
  • Estimating Battery Pack Charge Time
    • After the battery pack has run out, it will take approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the battery pack using the AC adaptor. Charging may take longer when the system is turned on during charging.
  • Battery Pack Lifespan
    • The battery pack has a limited lifespan. Battery pack duration will decrease with repeated usage and age. If the battery pack duration declines greatly, it may be time to replace the battery pack. The battery pack lifespan will vary depending on how it is stored, the conditions of use and environmental factors, such as temperature.
