Saving Directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP®

The Memory Stick Duo™ is the storage media used by the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system. It can be used to store game data, music, videos, photos, and other downloaded content.


For some content, you can save files to your Memory Stick Duo™ by connecting it to a computer for most content. See "Saving to a Memory Stick Duo™ Using a Computer™" for more information.


There are some instances when you can save directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP®:

  • Online Downloads
    When you use a wireless (WLAN) network connection to go online though the PSP® web browser, you can download files from the internet and save them directly to the Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP®. See below for more information.
  • RSS Content
    When you use a WLAN connection to go online though the PSP® web browser, you can save RSS content directly to your Memory Stick Duo™ for offline enjoyment. For more information, see "Saving RSS Content to a Memory Stick Duo™."
  • Sharing Photos
    When you use the Ad Hoc mode to share photos with other PSP® users, you can save photos you receive directly to your Memory Stick Duo™. For more information, see "Sending and Receiving Photos/Images".

To save online downloads directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ in your PSP®:

  1. Make sure that you have your PSP® set up for Wireless (WLAN) networking in Infrastructure Mode. For more information, see "Setting up Infrastructure Mode."
  2. Connect to the internet via the PSP® web browser. For details, see "Using Web Browser - Getting Started."
  3. Find and select the online content you want to download in one of the following places:
    • The Official PSP® Website - www.psp.us.playstation.com - accessible only through the PSP® web browser.
    • Any other website that contains PSP®-supported files.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to save the files to the following folders on the Memory Stick Duo™:
    • Music/audio files must be saved to the MUSIC folder.
    • Photo/image files must be saved to the PHOTO folder:
      • Click the image you wish to download and it will open full frame on your screen.
      • Press Triangle button to access the web browser menu, select File Icon (File Icon) on the bottom left corner of the screen, and click SAVE IMAGE.
    • Movie/video files must be saved to the VIDEO folder:
      • Click the video you wish to download, then select Download Video.
    • Game files must be saved to the exact folder specified in the on-screen instructions.
  5. To confirm the save, select Save and press X button to proceed.
  6. When the save is completed, the Save Completed screen will appear.
  7. Press Circle button to return to the website.


Notes:
  • Online Requirements
    PSP® online connectivity requires internet service and network devices, such as a DSL or cable modem and a wireless router - for example, a Wi-Fi hotspot at a café or a wireless local area network (WLAN) in your home
  • Compatible Formats
    Files must be in the correct format in order to be accessed on the PSP®. For more information, see:
  • Memory Stick Duo™
    • Available Space
      The amount of data you can save to your Memory Stick Duo™ will depend on the storage capacity of the Memory Stick Duo™ (they come in various sizes) and the amount of information already saved. There must be enough available space for the files you wish to save on your Memory Stick Duo™. For information about how to check for available space, see "System Check".

      If you need more room on a Memory Stick Duo™, you might be able to delete data. For details, see "Deleting Data from a Memory Stick Duo™."

    • Formatting
      If this is the first time you've used the Memory Stick Duo™, you must format it for use with your PSP®. For instructions, see "Formatting a Memory Stick Duo™."
    • Folder Structure
      Files must be saved in specific folders using appropriate names to be viewed on the PSP®. If you have problems accessing content, see "About Memory Stick Duo™ Folder Structure."
